The New Meadows is a wide inlet of the Atlantic (about 1/2 mile wide) and unlike the Kenebec river, there is no strong current. In short, It is a lazy beautiful ocean inlet which has lots of different islands, nooks and crannies, as well as awesome bird life from raptors like Bald Eagles and Ospreys to fishers like Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets and Cormorants. There are several great beaches in the area. LedgeLawn has a "little" sandy beach out front, but across the river is Thomas Point Beach (see website). There are two excellent state parks in the area that have great beaches, Reid State park and Popham Beach. Both are on the open Atlantic with great white beaches. Reid state park has a shallow "lagoon" (very warm water) and Popham Beach has Fort Popham ( great place to explore) If you are interested in Marine history, or just love sailing ships you should go to the Bath Maine Maritime Museum, All of these places are available on our website under Coastal Maine Links.
