Active Adventure

We operate sea kayaking and whale watching tours in Loreto, in Baja California, Mexico Oct-May and in northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada each June-Sept. We have picked our areas and times of year to maximize chances of seeing whales and to have the best weather. Novices welcome.
A) Baja - 1) sea kayaking and camping tours in Loreto Bay National Marine Park in Sea of Cortez, 2) gray whale viewing up close in Magdalena Bay National Marine Preserve and 3) combos of the above two (each Feb and March)
B) BC Canada - 1) sea kayaking and orca watching tours Johnstone Strait and 2) lodge-based sea kayak tours in God's Pocket Provincial Park

Typical Day

First day of tour, we begin by giving a kayaking and/or whale watching introduction, making sure everyone is comfortable before we set out. We kayak or whale watch for a leisurely 1 1/2 to 2 hours before pulling out at a scenic spot for a picnic lunch which our guides whip up from scratch. Then another 1 1/2 to 2 hours and we'll arrive at our camp by mid-afternoon so that folks can snorkel in Baja or hike and explore in BC. One guide will lead activities while the other two guides prepare happy hour snacks and a sumptuous dinner. After dinner, we'll stargaze, view bioluminescense, and laugh about the day's adventures, before falling asleep in the utter, peaceful quiet, dreaming about tomorrow's fun.

Terry Prichard & Nancy Mertz (View My Profile)
In 1993 Terry Prichard and Nancy Mertz, after working as sea kayak guides for many years in Baja and the Pacific Northwest, created Sea Kayak Adventures. We wanted to share our love of nature and exciting work with others with our own panache. Meeting great people, kayaking and just being close to whales, sleeping under the stars far away from the nearest town. Being intimate with nature. It's an incredible experience.
Sea Kayak Adventures, Inc is actually three companies - we are fully licensed and permitted by the Mexican and Canadian governments to operate in their waters. We maintain offices in these countries, pay all the required fees and taxes; and we are committed to the hiring, training and development of local personnel. We offset our carbon footprint and donate to local environmental organizations. Our office in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, USA handles your reservations and takes care of you before and after your trip.
