Emporia is known as the "Front Porch to the Flint Hills". The Flint Hills area encompasses approximately five million acres of tallgrass prairie and stretches through Kansas from Nebraska to Oklahoma. These beautiful hills lie just miles from Emporia to the west and are an untouched national treasure of scenic hills, prairie ranch land and small, clean lakes. It is not uncommon to observe a cattle drive orchestrated by ranchers atop their horses. Visit the Z-bar ranch, a wonderful example of 1800's Italianate architecture (now a National Preserve) designed to protect a portion of the largest remaining unbroken tracts of tallgrass prairie left in the world. Open for tours, educational and interesting! Emporia is the home of Emporia State University, museums, theatre, antique shops and National Teachers Hall of Fame.

Seven Gables was built in 1893 and is a pristeen example of High Victorian architecture. It has been beautifully restored in keeping with period design. Ornate staircase, trim, pocket doors and fireplaces are all original. Formal gardens are the perfect place to enjoy drinks, surrounded by antique roses, brick walkways and an Italian fountain. Furnished in antiques and an antique grand piano in the music room, each room has been professionally decorated with custom fabrics and designer details. Full line interior design studio is located on the second floor of this historic home.

Seven Gables offers three beautiful guest rooms, all furnished in antiques. The Wedgewood room is dressed in French toile fabrics with antique dressing table and ornate, period silver pieces on display. This room is located in the turret portion of the home and has a wonderful, curved wall.
The White room is peaceful and serene with white lace at the windows, antique bed and Venetian mirror from Italy. The fireplace mantel in this room was hand made by slaves in Missouri and dates to 1838.
The Garden Room Suite has a four poster bed all draped in white lace and the adjoining greenhouse is filled with Victorian plant material and antique wicker. A wonderful place to relax with a cup of tea and restore your spirit!

The first floor reception room, music room and large dining room is the perfect place for corporate retreats, weddings and meetings. Gourmet lunches and private dinners can be arranged. A full breakfast is included in your bed and breakfast rate.
