Typical Day

Day by day itinerary: DAY 1, Friday, Bucharest Welcome to Romania! Your Dracula tour starts in the capital city of Romania, Bucharest. You’ll accommodate in a 3* central located hotel. Enjoy a city tour, your guide a Dracula expert will show you the Parliament Palace, the second largest building in the world, a legacy of a more recent vampire, ex-dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Along with your welcome dinner, you’ll receive your talisman: a cross carved by a famous popular craftsman to keep your body safe and your spirit alive, as well as a survival certificate (which you’ll have stamped as you progress through the itinerary) to recognize your courage! DAY 2, Saturday, Bucharest - Brasov Your first morning in Romania. Visit Snagov monastery, located on a small island of Snagov Lake. It was first founded in the 14th century by Mircea cel Batran Voivode, and then rebuilt by Vlad the Impaler in the 15th. It is the place where Vlad the Impaler was supposed to be buried. Drive to Sinaia, known as ‘the Carpathian Pearl’ and visit Peles Castle one of the most beautiful royal residences in Europe. The edifice has 160 rooms, all of them opulently decorated in leather and wood from the most valuable tree species. The custodians report a strange smell of violets whenever the ghost of the Queen Maria (the niece of Queen Victoria of Great Britain) returns to her beloved play-ground. For lunch we recommend Palace Restaurant, the place where the passengers of the famous train Orient Express used to dine. Drive to Poiana Brasov, enjoy a medieval dinner in a special 4* restaurant – medieval music, plate, accommodate in a 4* hotel with an authentic medieval touch. DAY 3, Sunday, Brasov - SighisoaraToday you’re introduced to the famous Bran Castle in Transylvania. The castle owes its fame both to its unique charm and to the myth Bram Stoker created around Dracula. Documentary evidence of the castle dates back as far as 1377. Queen Mary of Romania, the niece of Queen Victoria of Great Britain, turned the castle into a beautiful summer residence. Close to the castle there is a shrine set in the wall of a mountain which once sheltered her heart. Not far from the castle, is located the Horror Castle, a special treat dedicated for the strong-hearted! For lunch we recommend Traditional Sheepfold, a rustic restaurant where you can try a cheese tasting, as the Rucar –Bran area is very famous worldwide for the cheese assortments produced here! Evening in Sighisoara, the best preserved and still inhabited medieval citadel in Europe, UNESCO World Heritage Site but most important for you - Vlad Dracula's birth place! DAY 4, Monday, Sighisoara - Bistrita Citadel Stroll around the streets of the old citadel, just like Vlad Dracula did once, hundreds of years ago. Absorb the medieval atmosphere and, optional, attend a Witch trial in the square of the citadel, like in the old days. Since you’re in Dracula’s home town, we recommend for lunch Vlad Dracula’s House restaurant, the very place where Dracula was borne, turned today into a cosy restaurant! Continue your journey with Bistrita citadel, step into Jonathan Harker’s shoes! You’ll then find the answer to a question I’m sure is eating you up inside: Does Dracula have descendants? Meet Misiuga, the Baron of Dracula who looks remarkably young for an 83 year old, and be welcomed into his windswept tower; you’ll see an interesting puppet exhibition, receive a garlic wreath and a piece of good advice from the baron himself: to stay away from Dracula’s Castle in Borgo Pass! Of course we won’t listen and we’ll head straight for the castle. We’ll stay in Dracula’s Castle, a 3* hotel which was built in accordance to Bram Stokers imagination. After visiting Dracula’s coffin we’ll run out the castle, not admitting we’re afraid and saying, “we’re going shopping for souvenirs.” A candle lit dinner at the castle is followed by a fire camp near by with all the right stories for a night to remember.DAY 5, Tuesday, Bistrita Citadel - Turda Aren’t you happy to see the light of the day again? Morning ride to Cluj, admire here the impressive Saint Michael’s Cathedral. Optional: How about a genuine Dracula tattoo? It’s hard to believe, but here in the heart of Transylvania you can find the best Turkish kebab, that we strongly recommend for your lunch, in spite of the irony – a Turkish specialty in Vlad Dracul’s country, given the fact that he was the worst enemy the Turks could have had. From Cluj we drive to Turda, accommodate in a 4* medieval hotel and delight yourself with a vampire menu for dinner, a delicious reason to travel to Transylvania! Still, an evening to fear, you’ll attend the killing of a vampire; you’ll be part of the crowd seeking to take the bloody creature to a special place where the ritual can begin! Masquerade party to celebrate the victory (or recover from defeat)!DAY 6, Wednesday, Turda - Sibiu Time to put your existence to the test! In Turda you’ll descend into the heart of one of the biggest salt mines in the country – Turda Salt Mines. The Mine ends in a narrow tunnel at the end of which a mirror is placed. Should you see your reflection in the mirror, you will know you still have a soul to worry about! In Medias, become acquainted with a unique artist, the only one in the world who uses spider webs for his paintings. As you probably know, spiders are creatures happily tolerated by the count, so you’ll have further proof of how they are not merely reminiscent of delights' past. Enjoy your last evening of this Dracula tour, in Sibiu the European Cultural capital of 2007, a city with a wonderful medieval charm, excellent views of surrounding landscapes and great food. Dine in one of the oldest restaurants in Romania, Sibiu’s Tavern, decorated in a rustic style and serving delicious traditional dishes. DAY 7, Sibiu - Bucharest Your last Transylvanian morning. Please allow your self an extra 5 minutes in bed to think about your adventure in Dracula’s kingdom, wasn’t it soul captivating? It’s time to take you soul back home, travel to Bucharest to catch you flight back or maybe by now you can just spread your wings and fly? You never know!
