Typical Day
Life on board
On most itineraries gulets cruise for an average of three hours a day, generally by motor to keep to schedule, under glorious sail when weather and time permits. While many gulets are designed solely as motor cruisers, all the gulets we use are proper sailing vessels. There are plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and more active water sports, like windsurfing.
In the late afternoon we usually head ashore to explore one of the stunning ancient cities studding the coast.
Age range, type of group
Our typical age is very broad, from 30-75. We run a number of family trips where parents can bring children over 7 years of age.
Our archaeological tours in Turkey, Greece, and Italy are very much self selecting. The people who come on our trips are usually well travelled, enthusiastic, and curious about exploring new countries and cultures. They come from an incredibly wide range of professional backgrounds. Some have never been on an archaeological tour before, others have explored ancient sites all over the world.
On average about a quarter of the people on our trips are single travellers. About 40% of our guests come from the UK, 40% from the US, with the remaining 20% split between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and beyond.
Sleeping and meals
Turkish delight - food aboard
Our mealtime panoramas vary from secluded coves to old fishing villages. All food is prepared on board by our chef in the gulet's galley, who conjures up a variety of fresh local delicacies.
Breakfast typically consists of bread, tomatoes, olives, cheese, eggs, yoghurt and honey. Lunch and dinner are usually one or two main courses, accompanied by salads and mezes, followed by fruit. The food in Turkey is ranked as one of the three finest cuisines in the world, alongside French and Chinese, and justifiably so.
Very drinkable Turkish wines (the grapes of Asia Minor were famed in antiquity) are stocked on board, along with a range of spirits, beers, soft drinks and fruit juices.
