The ‘A' frame units are all separate and scattered amongst the bush where bird life is prolific. From fully self-contained chalets to ensuited dorm rooms or small cabins with their own kitchen, you make the choice. The swimming pool is operational from December through to the end of March and from the shop you can buy groceries, souvenirs, confectionary and fuel. The café/restaurant and bar areas have outside decking where you can sit and relax and soak up the atmosphere. There are many long or short walks in the area and in the nature walk nearby there's often glow worms to be seen at night.
Makarora is approximately one hour's drive from either Wanaka or Haast on State Highway 6. It is adjacent the Department of Conservation's Makarora Field Office and just south of the Haast Pass in NZ's Southern Alps.
