Take a right on Thames St. The Red Parrot Restaurant will now be on your left. Continue straight for about 8 blocks along the waterfront to Howard St. (on the left). You will pass a Greek Orthodox Church on the left. See Crazy Dough's Pizza shop on the corner of Howard St. then take a left. 16 Howard is the third house on the left - a large blue house with black shutters. (CAUTION: Do not take a left at the Brown/Howard Wharf sign which you will see on your right as you approach Howard St. If you take a left here you will be on Dennison Street. Howard Street is two blocks after this sign on the left) If driving: Howard is a one-way street going towards the waterfront. If driving you will need to take the next left after Howard onto Pope, then left on Spring, then left on Howard. 16 Howard is the third house from Thames St. on the right.

By Bus to Newport: Bonanza Bus lines services Newport. From Boston take a bus from Bonanza Bus Lines (Peter Pan or Bonanza) from South Station to either Providence or Newport. If to Providence, then change to a Rhode Island Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus (this is the cheapest way to travel on public transportation between Newport and Boston). From any other location take a bus to Providence then take a Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA) bus to Newport. Follow walking directions above.

By car to Newport: From points north - 95S, exit 4S (south of Providence), to 138E to Newport. From Cape cod - 6W to 195W, to 24S, to 138E to Newport. From points west - 95N to 4S (just before Providence), to 138E to Newport.

By air to Providence: The T.F. Green airport outside of Providence, RI, is the closest airport to Newport. The best way to get to the William Gyles Guesthouse from the airport is by a minivan shuttle service run by Cozy Cab. Cost from airport to Newport is $20 one way. Ask them to drop you off at the William Gyles Guesthouse in Newport. The people from Cozy Cab may want to drop you off at a hotel near the hostel rather than at the hostel. If so, have them drop you off at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Newport. From there you can get to the hostel by catching a local cab ($4) or by walking 15 minutes along the waterfront (beautiful walk!). This scenario could happen because you are taking an airport "shuttle" which costs $25, not a private taxi, which costs $75. If they drop you off at the hostel when taking the shuttle, thank them profusely because they went out of their way for you and gave you special treatment.
