Bamber House is a beautiful colonial lodge situated in the peaceful and leafy suburb of Mt Eden, Auckland. Just a short bus ride or a 30 minute walk into the city centre, we are perfectly located with a good choice of local cafes, bars and shops including a large Countdown.
We have beautiful parks and Mt Eden itself on our doorstop affording panoramic views of the entire city and providing excellent opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
Our friendly hostel has a choice of dorms and private rooms in addition to clean and spacious communal areas and a large garden. We can accommodate guests from the age of 10 upwards although only those aged 18 and over can be booked into our share rooms.
Our experienced staff are at hand to offer the best advice on travel itineraries around New Zealand and can book you onto any activities and excursions that would match your preferences.
We regularly provide activities within the hostel to keep you entertained and ensure you have every opportunity to meet your fellow travellers. We offer $5 meals, Mexican nights, Quiz nights, Movie nights in our comfortable lounge area and frequently arrange trips into the city to try out a few bars and clubs, ten pin bowling or catching the latest blockbuster at the IMAX. We also have a Nintendo Wii, board games and a large book exchange!
Our check-in time is from 2pm although we always try to check you in beforehand if the room is available and we contact all bookings with helpful tips on the best way to reach us. Each guest also receives 200mb of free wifi on arrival. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful home soon!
From the Airport
Get a Supershuttle to our door or get the Airbus to drop you off at the top of View Road.
From the Intercity Bus Terminal and Downtown
Walk down to Queen Street and get bus 255-258, 265 or 267 outside St James theatre and get off at the 1st stop in View Road. If you somehow end up in Mt Eden Village go to Oaklands Lodge and we will arrange for you to get here.
From the Motorway Heading North
Take the Khyber Pass turnoff and turn left at the lights. Stay on Khyber Pass Road until you have passed through one more set of lights then turn left into Symonds Street at the next set of lights (3rd set of lights). Travel a short distance and take the free left turn into Mt Eden Road at the next set of lights. Travel about 2 km through one set of lights. Mt Eden (mountain) is on your left. Turn right into View Road. If you get to the Mt Eden shops you have gone too far, turn back.
From the Motorway Heading South
Take the Gillies Ave turnoff and turn right at the lights into Gillies Ave. Stay on Gillies Ave until you have passed through one more set of lights and then turn right at the next set of lights (3rd set of lights) into Owens Road. Mt Eden (mountain is on your right) Continue on Owens Road (which becomes Stokes Road) until the next set of lights when you turn right into Mt Eden Road then take the first left into Valley Road.Turn right into Sherbourne Road which ends at View Road and we are on the lefthand corner
