Point Prim Light house (#2 of 9)
Point Prim Lighthouse Only a short 10 - 15 min drive away!!!! On the Trans Canada Highway, look for the turn-off to Point Prim between Belfast and Pinette. At the end of the road turn left in through the woods to the light. It is the oldest lighthouse on PEI (1846) and the only round one. Its walls are 18 thick made of brick. Years after original construction it was sheathed with wooden strapping and shingles. Height in meters above ground: 18.3 Open from June, 18th to September, 24th Prince Edward Island's oldest lighthouse, built in 1845. Climb 80 ft. above sea level for a magnificent view of Northumberland Strait and Hillsborough Bay from this unique, round, brick structure which is classified as a National Heritage Site. Historic displays, guided tours and picnic area available as well as a virtual tour viewed from the first floor.
