Description   Country hospitality at the Hummingbird Inn

Country hospitality at the Hummingbird Inn: The Franklin Room

Description of Surrounding Area

Sitting on an acre of landscaped grounds and bordered by a wide trout stream, the Hummingbird Inn is located in the little railroad town of Goshen, northwest of historic Lexington, at the western edge of the Shenandoah Valley. Close to Goshen Pass, a spectacular rocky gorge, you'll find fishing, hiking, antiquing, and lovely countryside to explore. Robert E. Lee Chapel, Stonewall Jackson House, and other historic sites in Lexington, Staunton and Warm and Hot Springs, as well as an herb farm, a working grist mill, and a small vineyard are popular spots to visit. Theater and music abound in the area.

Country hospitality at the Hummingbird Inn: The deck on Mill Creek

Description of Accommodations

An 1853 Carpenter Gothic villa, the first rooms of the Hummingbird Inn were actually constructed in 1780. Five spacious guestrooms, four with queen beds, one with a king-sized bed, have private baths, some with jacuzzis. The inn is furnished with antiques, and all rooms feature air-conditioners, ceiling fans, fireplaces or stoves, and natural cotton linens. Plentiful common areas include the rustic den with wood fireplace, a large living room, a solarium, and a spacious dining room. Wrap-around verandas on the first and second floors offer lovely views of the gardens, and in the summertime the hummingbirds will keep you amused. A deck overlooking the stream next to the barn out back is a relaxing place to spend the afternoon, or a place to visit with friends in front of the outdoor fireplace in the evening.
