Sitting on an acre of landscaped grounds and bordered by a trout stream, the Hummingbird inn
is located in the little railroad town of Goshen, northwest of historic Lexington, at the western edge of the Shenandoah Valley. Close to Goshen Pass, a spectacular rocky gorge, you'll find fishing, hiking, antiquing, and lovely countryside to explore. Robert E. Lee Chapel, Stonewall Jackson House, and other historic sites in Lexington, Staunton and Warm and Hot Springs, as well as a working grist mill, and a small vineyard are popular spots to visit. Theater, great restaurants and music abound in the area.
An 1853 Carpenter Gothic villa, the first rooms of the Hummingbird Inn were actually constructed in 1780. Five spacious guestrooms, four with queen beds, one with a king-sized bed, have private baths, two with jacuzzis. The inn is furnished with comfortable cozy style and all rooms feature air-conditioners, ceiling fans, fireplaces, and amazingly soft sheets. Plentiful common areas include the rustic den with wood fireplace, a large living room, a solarium, and a spacious dining room. Wrap-around verandas on the first and second floors offer lovely views of the gardens, and in the summertime the hummingbirds will keep you amused. A deck overlooking the stream next to the barn out back is a relaxing place to spend the afternoon, or a place to visit with friends in front of the outdoor fireplace in the evening. The Inn offers WIFI, a 24 hr coffee bar, with drinks and snacks all around.
Five graciously-sized guestrooms offer ample space for a couple to get away and spend some time together. A third person can be accommodated in any of the rooms, if necessary. All rooms have electric fireplaces and modern private baths, two with whirlpool tubs. Each room is unique from the others, have the softest sheets, cozy robes, include feather beds, internet radios, room flashlights and snacks!
Two rooms have Jacuzzi tubs with showers; one room has a large double-headed shower. All rooms have working fireplaces. There is a satellite TV with VCR and DVD player in the den, which also has the only fireplace in the house that still burns wood. A great place to gather on cold winter evenings. A portable phone is available. Casual candlelight dinner available on Saturdays, four courses, wine, $90 per couple. Light dinners available Friday nights, $50 per couple. All dinners must be reserved atleast 48 hours in advance.
