Description of Surrounding Area
You will find many things to do in this historic and charming quintessential New England shoreline town located where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound! There is miles of beautiful coastline to walk, bike or drive right from the B&B. You can rent bikes a couple blocks away. There are beaches, cruises, lighthouses, parks, waterfront dining, waterfront mini golf, oceanfront golf, etc. only 1 mile away, a scenic cove 1/2 mile away, and you can walk to quaint shops, restaurants, theaters, cafes, spas, coffeehouses, ice skating pond, and the water, etc. The B&B is on a pretty gas-lit main street in the historic district (we are part of a historic walking tour). We are next door to an old-fashioned ice cream parlor that has been in operation since 1896, a coffeehouse, and art gallery open June thru Oct. Across the street is a pillared white church and an old house museum. Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, Essex Village, Chamard Vineyards, Connecticut River Museum, Florence Griswold Museum, and the factory outlet malls are only 10 min. away. There are many other things to do as well such as antiqueing, playhouses, Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun Casinos, Gillette Castle, state parks, wineries, spas, Mystic Seaport, Village & Aquarium, shopping, canoeing, biking, etc.
Description of Accommodations
All the rooms are very elegant period style rooms with private baths, working fireplaces, jacuzzi whirlpool tubs, cable tv, stereo/CD players, phone and modem lines, AC, and each have 4-poster or canopy Queen size beds and comfortable sitting areas. Breakfast is served on fine china, crystal, silver by candle-light in the elegant dining room w/ fireplace and corner cupboard. Our grounds are also very picturesqe with a 2-person rope hammock, a 3 tier fountain, a swing from a 3-century old maple, inviting sitting areas, and beautiful gardens.

The Suite The spacious boudoir sets a romantic stage with a Queen-sized carved 4 poster rice bed overlooking an original working fireplace, hand-stencilled swags, a handsome boudoir, vanity desk/mirror, and inviting french doors which lead to a sunny sitting room with day bed. Spacious private bath with oversized jacuzzi tub, cable TV, stereo/CD player, AC. This room is on the 2nd floor of the main building. - $190 per night weekends with full breakfast. - $130 weeknights with breakfast of home baked goods & fresh fruit.

Bordered on 2 sides by the CT River & Long Island Sound, Old Saybrook embodies the spirit of a small, charming New England town with a rich seafaring tradition. There is a popular bicycle loop in Old Saybrook which takes you along 10 miles of beautiful coastline and historic homes. There are two public boat launches which afford great canoe/kayak routes/scenery. Picturesque Main street is the only gas-lit Main street in CT. Main Street has a brick median w/ gas lights, flowers, brick sidewalks, quaint shops, 8 cinemas, 3 restaurants, 4 cafe's, 3 spas, coffeehouses w/ entertainment, town green activities. Saybrook Point Park at the mouth of the CT River affords many things to do as well, including mini golf, an art gallery of local art, waterfront dining, a historic walking park, and CT River & Long Island Sound cruises. For the antiquer, there are 400 antique dealers in a 4 mile stretch in Old Saybrook! There is also the General William Hart House and numerous art galleries, antique shops, boat launches, beaches to walk, 2 lighthouses to explore, a bicycle rental shop, and much more! In the winter there is the Winter Festival, Saybrook Stroll, Torchlight Parade, and beautifully decorated Main Street and Historic districts. In the summer there is the Old Saybrook Arts & Crafts Festival and Taste of Saybrook. In the fall there is the Harvest Festival and beautiful fall foliage.

From the North (Bradley Int?l Apt: Hartford, CT and Mass.): Interstate 91 South to Route 9 South to exit 2. At end of ramp go right (154 South/West). Go 2 miles and go left at light onto Main Street. B&B is 0.8 miles on right.
From the East (Rhode Island and Providence Airport): Interstate 95 South to exit 67, Go left onto Elm Street. Go 1 mile to end of road and take right at stop sign onto Main Street (you will have crossed over route 1). B&B is 0.8 miles on right.
From the South and West (New York City/Laguardia Airport): Interstate 95 North to exit 67, bearing right at fork on exit ramp. At third traffic light go left onto Main Street. B&B is 0.8 miles on right.
