Description of Surrounding Area

This seaside jungle retreat set just above Matapalo beach is ideal for those looking for a casual, enlightened atmosphere surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. SETTING: Listen to the waves crash on the blond sand and white rock shore just 50 meters away while you lounge in a hammock in a unique tropical garden. The rainforest rises behind you up the cliffs while creatively designed landscaping, organized into unique garden clusters, titillates your retina. The tall Main Rancho sits towards the front of the property with a view to the surf, while the 2 story Honeymoon Cabina overlooks the forest farther back, the tiled wading pool beckoning just a few steps away. Various jungle trails lead out from here. Fruit trees and pineapples are abundant, and the organic garden adds a healthy touch.
Kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, horseback riding, rain forest hiking plus world class bird-watching and pollution free ocean surfing are all available locally. English speaking guides are available for private tours.

Description of Accommodations

FEATURES: The Main Rancho houses the kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, a large bathroom, outside hot garden shower, and covered lounging / dining deck with hammocks, chairs, tables and lanterns. White cane and hardwoods are prevalent in the construction. The rooms have louvered windows for maximum air circulation, hanging beads as doors, and closets with screened shelves and hangers. The Honeymoon Cabina out back has two rooms on two floors. The downstairs room has a full kitchen with a washer, while the upstairs has a built-in writing desk and large deck with hammocks and chairs. Louvers cover three sides of the rooms, and both have private bathrooms. The outside shower next to the pool is surrounded by lush foliage like the one at the Main Rancho- very nice, private and spacious.

Description of Rooms/Suites

Rancho Almendros sleeps 8 guests maximum in 4 private double rooms with 3 private baths. All rooms are screened and have lighting and fans.

Amenities

All meals are included and dining is communal on the large outdoor veranda of the "Main Rancho". Hammocks abound everywhere and there is a cooling pool of artesian creek water next to the "Honeymoon Cabina". An excellent chef is available to prepare all meals which are included in the price.

As of 2004, we now rent the Honeymoon Cabina with a "housekeeping" plan where a full kitchen is included for stays of 1 week to one month discounted for weeks stayed.

Directions

FLYING:
Most of our returning guests choose to take the 40 minute flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez on either Sansa or Travelair. After arriving in Puerto Jimenez, it's then a 12 mile taxi ride out to the tip of Cabo Matapalo beach and Rancho Almendros
