Mackay Wilderness River Trips offers multi-day whitewater rafting trips. We operate in Idaho's River of No Return Wilderness on the Middle Fork of the Salmon and Main Salmon rivers. Are trips are top-of-the-line with only the best in safety, guides, food and equipment. Our Kid Wranglers (on all family trips) watch over the kids and not only entertain, but educate them on this amazing primitive area. Both these undammed rivers range in intensity as the summer passes. June we have high Class IV thrills and in August the rivers offer low fun splashy water with lots of sunshine and fishing. From the white sand beaches of the Main Salmon to the majestic crags of the Middle Fork's Impassable Canyon, our guests' every expectations are surpassed!

Typical Day

Guides are up with light breakfast available between 6:00 Am and 8:00 AM. 8:00 AM the formal breakfast is served. After eating, guests go to their tents and pack up their personal gear. Gear boat is loaded and we all load up and head out for a morning of paddling, exploring and taking in the amazing river. Usually on the water by 10:00 AM. Raft until lunch, stopping occasionally for a historic sight, hot springs or to watch otters play along the bank. Lunch lasts about an hour and then we are off rafting and playing until we reach our riverside camp, already set up and waiting for us. We arrive at camp around 4:00 PM. Guests spend the time before dinner, playing cards, enjoying a game of horseshoes, hiking, fishing or just relaxing. The kids are off with the Kid Wrangler. After some time reliving the days adventures around the campfire, off to bed and dreams of the day ahead.

Age range, type of group

Mackay river trips are open to guests 5 years old and up. Age limits do exist during certain times of the year - Spring run off. Most trips are made up of families and friends with up to 24 guests per trip and 6 Mackay guides. On any given trip we may have business people, or fishermen, or couples, singles, seniors. These trips are great for EVERYONE!

Sleeping and meals

Mackay uses only top-of-the-line equipment for camping and rafting comfort and safety. We provide everything you need except your personal clothes and toiletries. Our gourmet meals are healthy and delicious. We can handle any dietary requirement - vegan, gluten free, etc. For safety concerns, all Mackay trips carry full trauma kits, satellite phones, defibrillator and an EMT.

Rates range from $1650.00 to $2100.00 for a 6 day adventure. Shorter trips are available - call for dates.

Discounts Offered

Mackay offers on all our Main Salmon family trips a 50% discount for kids 12 and younger.
