Whitewater Adventure Outfitters offers 1/2 Day, Full Day and Overnight trips on the Arkansas River in Colorado. Trips are available for novices and families, running Class II and III whitewater. Trips in Bighorn Sheep Canyon are fun splashy and appropriate for nearly all agees and abilities. We also specialize in trips through the Royal Gorge Class III to V depending on water levels. These trips are much more intense and run as either paddle boats or oar rigs. Previuous experience is generally required and recommended for paddle boats in the Royal Gorge.
Full day trips check into our office in Canon City at 8:30 A.M. Most full day trips on the Arkansas are building trips, starting out milder and working your way up to more intense whitewater. The Bighorn Sheep Canyon trip begins in Class II water in the morning a stop for lunch and the afternoon moves into Class III and III+ water. The Royal Gorge full day begins the day with Class III water, stops for lunch and actually enters the Gorge after lunch, finshing in Class IV to V water. Most full day trips return to the office btween 4:00 and 5:00. Our 1/2 Day Royal Gorge trips are run with 8:30 and 12:15 check in times, Bighorn Sheep Canyon 1/2 days have either 8:30 or 1:30 check in times. Generally you are on the water for about 2 1/2 hours on 1/2 day trips. Multi Day trips are varied with check in times, depending on which trip you chose and what part of the river the trip is scheduled for. Meals are provided and the cooking and clean up is taken care of by the guides.
Age range, type of group
Bighorn Sheep Canyon trips are appropriate for children as young as six in an oar rig, this is also an appropriate trip for first timers and youth groups. We have taken guests as old as 87 in Bighorn Sheep Canyon. The Royal Gorge is more appropriate for adults and adult sized youth, later in the season late July throught September it becomes more appropriate for a wider range of guests.
Sleeping and meals
Canon City is a town of approximately 20,000 people, there are numerous motels and restaurants.available. There are also many camp grounds and 100's of acres of BLM land in the area for camping.
Reservations are recommended, especailly for overnight trips.
Walk ins are welcome on a space available basis.
