Description of Surrounding Area

Lynchburg is located in the beautiful mountainous Central VA. Within one hours drive there are over 70 attractions. Some of the most popular closeby are Civil War sites as Appomattox, the Lynchburg Memorial Terrace Steps and the Confederate cemetery. Thomas Jefferson's retreat home of Poplar Forest is only minutes away. Other places to enjoy are Point of Honor museum home, art galleries, Pirate's minor league baseball team, the annual "Living Christmas Tree" and many festivals and antique shops.

Description of Accommodations

Stately Federal Crest Inn dominates the highest crest on historic Federal Hill and is surrounded by beautiful dogwoods and century-old magnolia and holly trees. The site is not only the highest ridge, but it is blessed to be a corner lot with almost an acre of beautiful grounds. Upon approaching the front steps of the 1909 mansion, one ascends to a lovely porch flanked by tall white columns with inviting rockers and flowers. Inside, the beauty only continues with mahogany paneling, high ceilings and elaborate moldings to show the rich architecture of the period. Magnificent white columns in the foyer stand on either side of the massive central staircase which leads to a large mezzanine landing featuring a beautiful leaded glass window. The stairs then split and go up to the second floor. On the first level,the living room captures the visitor with sounds from the player piano and the antique organ. Warm fireplaces blaze in the parlor, library and dining room. Morning dining is indeed a moment to remember as the hosts serve hot, freshly cooked, delicious breakfasts which always begin with hot coffee, juice and a message muffin before the entre. This is all enhanced by china, shining crystal and silver, and served with music and candlelight for your enjoyment. The dining room with its French doors, arches, green tiled fireplace, mahogany moldings and ceiling beams, wins many guests' vote as their most favorite room in the home. Added attractions of the mansion is the theater on the third floor which was built by the original owner for his children to write and give plays. Also, the present owners feature a Fifties Cafe/Gift shop off the dining room where there is a jukebox and antique slot machine. Ann,one of the innkeepers is an artist who specializes in hand painted stemware and VA. countryside slate tiles.

Description of Rooms/Suites

The Inn's guest rooms are all located on the second floor and lead off the large hallway with sofa, refreshment table, and magazine/menu center.Two of the rooms are two-room suites with beautiful sitting rooms adjoining the bedroom with televisions and comfortable lounging furniture and reading lights. Most of our rooms have gas-log fireplaces, all have connecting private baths and queensize beds. Some beds are canopy and one suite has a jacuzzi tub. All rooms are beautifully decorated and luxuriously appointed with fluffy robes, down comforters and other amenities.

Amenities

The Inn offers telephones, computer modems and tv in every room-some have VCR's also. Guests have access to printing and fax privilages. The third floor has a large conference theater/gathering room with a 60 inch television. Amenities for guests also include arrival refreshments, nightly home baked cookies and beverages, early morning coffee and juice outside of bedroom, and snack baskets in every bedroom. Other services include nightly turndown service and mints, and special treats for the honeymoon, anniversary and birthday couples. The gift shop offers very original and unusual hand painted gifts as Christmas ornaments, crystal goblets, slates and note paper.

Room service upon request is offered. Transportation to and from the airport or colleges can be arranged.

We are sorry, but pets are not allowed. We do have a resident dog, Carmel, and a 22 yr. old black cat,

Rates & Availability

Our rates range from $105 to $140. We Toni. Smoking is allowed outside on our porch and patio or yard areas. We do not accept young children as we are not"child proof" We do accept Corporate discounts. We have a 5th rm. which can connect to a main room to make a 2-rm. suite if needed. That room is an additional $75. We have a few 2-night minimums, just inquire.

Other Information

We are open all year- and are fully central air-conditioned. There are three systems of heat (heap pumps by floors, radiators, and fireplaces) We are flexible with breakfast times, but fresh cook every meal. Discounts may be negoiated for extended stays.

Directions

From Lynchburg's Route 29, we can easily be found. Take the 29 bypass, not business 29, get off at Main St. Proceed to Eleventh St., turn left and go up the hill 6 blocks. We are on the left at the corner of Federal and 11th. Pass our blue Inn sign at the corner, continue on Eleventh and kindly park in our off-street parking lot beside our house.
