I went last summer with my husband and 10 year old son on this tour. It was really fantastic!! Mark was incredibly helpful with planning our trip and knowledgeable about the river systems and ecology of the area. The food was fantastic. Do not expect to lose weight. My son had a great time fishing and boating. My husband got to relax and I had an opportunity to really dive into learning about the rain forest. We enjoyed an excellent houseboat tour on the Rio Negro during a very brief 2 day stop in Manaus as part of a 27 day Amazon and Caribbean cruise. Although Swallows and Amazons Tours specializes in longer houseboat tours, co-owner Mark Aitchison was able to arrange a special tour for 5 of us from the cruise ship. Tours are Riverboat based (8 persons max in hammocks), Houseboat based (6 double air-conditioned* cabins) or Lodge based (12 a/c dbl rooms). Focus is on travel on the Amazon and Negro Rivers and Anavilhanas Archipelago (7 night packages), Jau National Park (11 night packages) and Pico da Neblina National Park (15 day packages).

Early morning birdwatching; morning rainforest walk; boat travel up the Rio Negro and through the Anavilhanas Archipelago; siesta and swimming; afternoon canoeing & piranha fishing; evening alligator spotting. Overnight on boat or in rainforest camp.
Age range, type of group
Couples, families, independent travelers 25-65 years old. For Riverboat and Lodge tours 2 persons minimum guarantees a departure on any date. For Houseboat tours 2 persons minimum guarantees departure on weekly Monday starts (Sunday arrival in Manaus).
Sleeping and meals
Hammocks or daybeds on our Riverboats, air-conditioned* cabins aboard our Houseboat, hammocks in jungle camps, and a/c private apartments at our Araras Lodge. Home cooked meals include local fish, tropical fruits, regional vegetables.

Every tour includes canoeing and trekking, meals and accommodations. Fishing and swimming sidetrips are also included, as well as visits with local riverpeople and/or indigenous peoples (depending on locations visited).
