Description   Outpost Wilderness Adventure

Outpost Wilderness Adventure: Tarhumara children with group members.

Description of Active Adventure

Copper Canyon Mexico has been described as the "Everest of Mountain Biking." Outpost Wilderness Adventure leads groups of intermediate, advanced, and expert riders through this immense wonderland of singletrack, hour-long downhills, and technical challenges. In ten years of riding in the Copper Canyon area, we've just scratched the surface, and every trip includes real elements of exploration and adventure. No other destination combines such great biking, sublime scenery, and cultural richness.

OWA is also involved in a continuing trail and rock climbing development program in the area and assists with the implementation of La Onza (mountain bike race and festival) in July of each year.

Outpost Wilderness Adventure: Lost Mission of Satevo

Typical Day

Most days are built around six or seven hours of riding, depending on the desires of the group. Sometimes rides have predetermined destinations, such as the Valley of the Monks, the Lost Mission of Satevo, or the town of Cerro Colorado, but just as often we are simply out to ride the singletrack wherever it takes us. Riding hard all day is a real pleasure when you have a comfortable hotel or cabana and a great dinner to come back to. And if you want to take a day off from riding, there are endless options for exploring the Mexican and Tarahumara cultures. Options for non-riders are available each day.

Outpost Wilderness Adventure: Riding under an afternoon moon.

Age range, type of group

Scheduled trips, tours and camps are restricted to adults or teenagers accompanied by a parent. Custom trips can be designed to accommodate almost any group or family of any level and age. A special mountain bike and rock climbing summer camp for teens is offered in conjunction with

Outpost Wilderness Adventure: Riding the canyon rim, near Creel.

Sleeping and meals

OWA Copper Canyon excursions are typiocally hotel-based but may also include stays at private residences, such as Don Bush's La Cancha Compound in La Bufa. Meals are hearty local cuisine normally taken at restaurants, private homes or hotels. Most lunches are trail lunches. Vegetarians can be accommodated without any problem. Accommodations are comfortable hotels or cabins with hot water, comfortable beds and heat (as needed). Note that summer temperatures are very hot in the depths of the canyons, so programs are focussed in the mountain around Creel and Divisadero during the hot months.

Outpost Wilderness Adventure: Donkey and friends.

Restrictions

Pets are not allowed. Smoking is not allowed in OWA vehicles or in rooms shared with non-smokers. All trips offer options for non-riders.
