Description of Surrounding Area

Located in the middle of the beautiful Eastern Shore of Virginia, Onancock is a waterfront village with a long history, dating back to 1680. With close ties to the Chesapeake Bay, there are many water related activities. Take a short walk to our local museum, Kerr Place. Browse our local shops, or walk down to the wharf and hop the ferry to Tangier Island for the day! Try renting a kayak and explore the Onancock Creek the best way possible! Or take a 30 min. drive north to visit the wild ponies and walk the beack. Or you can explore all the small towns "Off 13" and see a piece of history! Or...linger over dinner at one of our many fine restaurants in this quaint town...1500 people! One of the largest towns on the Shore! If you are looking for a place to "get away from it all", this is it! Leave your laptop in the trunk and come on in!

Description of Accommodations

Our house is an 1890's Folk Victorian, typical of many farmhouses of the Victorian era here on the Shore. It has the original clapboard siding and old shutters on the outside and original floors inside. When you drive up, you will notice a cute cottage just where the driveway bends around a big shady tree. That cottage is in its third location...and we use it for an artist's studio! Recycling at its best! Parking is plenty...enough for your bikes and boats if you want. We have left the house much as it was when it was built, but have added the comforts of 2000! New kitchen to prepare yummy breakfasts, but with an original fireplace to keep it cozy! Plenty of modern baths for all guests! And the house is furnished with antiques, mostly local from the Eastern Shore, with modifications for current comfort - queen beds in each room with the best mattresses we could find!

Description of Rooms/Suites

Each room has a queen size bed and an attached private bath for your maximum comfort. Guests regulate their own heat or air condition, some rooms also have ceiling fans. Baths have a shower and fluffy towels. Each room is set apart from the others for maximum privacy. You will feel like you are the only ones in the house! Rooms are furnished with local Eastern Shore antiques, painted furniture, quilts on the beds. The rooms are clean, bright, and cheerful! And each room has an antique spinning wheel...I have a huge collection! Hence, the name!

Amenities

There are 10 restaurants here in town, most within walking distance from the house. Dine al fresco at a number of cozy restaurants. No franchises here! Several cute shops and galleries, also within a short walk of the house. Several restaurants open late, especially on weekends. YMCA about 2 miles away, you can go if you are a member of any other Y! Brand new facility. But we really want you to relax, leave your laptop in the car, and read a book at the town gazebo!

Services Offered

Laundry facilities available in town, massages available in town. Several beauty shops, barbers. We can make special arrangements for flowers, candy, champagne, dinner reservations, and the like for special occasions. And we can keep a secret! We have had several proposals here!

Restrictions

The house is not suitable for young children under 12; stairs are fairly steep and there is a deck on the third floor! We love pets. There are several boarding options locally if you are traveling with your pet. Our house is non-smoking but smokers are welcome to smoke on the porches and decks. And let us know if you have dietary restrictions. We are happy to make you feel comfortable and stick to your diet!

Rates & Availability

Rooms are $75, $85, $95 depending on the size plus 6.5% tax. Rates are the same at all times. No additional charges for weekends, no minimum stays except for holidays and Pony Penning in July. Call us for room availability. Plan on making your reservation at least two weeks in advance in summer, but for last minute plans, give us a call...we might have something available for you!

Directions

Rt. 13 on the Virginia Eastern Shore. Halfway between Salisbury, MD to the north and Virginia Beach, VA to the south. Turn west off of Rt. 13 onto Rt. 179W. Go 1 mile to Onancock. After movie theater, next right on to North Street. Spinning Wheel Bed & Breakfast is 31 North Street. Look for large, red antique spinning wheel on the front porch! Parking is down driveway behind house.
