Take a trip on the river! Self Guided River Trips are a great way to see the beauty of Vermont. Take a boat and take your time! We’ll drive you up the river with everything you need and give you expert advice for one of the most enjoyable experiences of a lifetime.

Winooski River: A gorgeous river winding though the Vermont woodlands. Wildlife viewing abounds here! Stop along the way for a swim or picnic and look for otters and great blue herons along the riverbanks.

9 Mile Trip: Paddle through two sections of Class I and II rapids. About 4 hours long and not recommended for children under 8 or for people with little paddling experience.

4 Mile Trip: Relax on flat, moving water with glimpses of Camel’s Hump and the Worchester Mountain Range. Perfect for families and first time paddlers. About 2 hours long and not recommended for children under 5.

Lamoille River: An easy paddle on flat, moving water. Beautiful views of Vermont’s rolling farmland, Mt. Mansfield, and a covered bridge! 4 and 8- Mile Trips are available and not recommended for children under 5.

Specialty Tours
Ice Cream Float: Grab a paddle and hold the root beer, this is not your usual Ice Cream Float! This is a 2-hour trip by canoe or kayak down the Winooski or Lamoille River includes ice cream and a half-hour tour of the Ben & Jerry’s factory. You’ll enjoy a self-guided trip down the river with great views and wildlife, then see how Ben & Jerry’s makes their famous ice cream in Waterbury.

River and Spirits Tour: A 4-mile calm paddle on flat, moving water that ends at Boyden Valley Winery. Discover the art of wine making with a tour and tasting at this family-owned winery and bucolic Vermont working farm. Paddlers on this tour have the option of doing an Ice Cream Float instead.

Guided Kayak Fishing Tours: Expert guides from The Fly Rod Shop will take you on a tour of the hottest fishing spots on the Waterbury Reservoir. Paddle Umiak’s kayaks set-up specifically for fishing. Stocked with rainbows & browns.

Age range, type of group

Our 2-hour tours are great for children over 5. We suggest 8 as the minimum for a 4-hour trip, as that's a long time for little ones to be confined to a boat. We can accommodate most families, but larger groups should plan ahead and make arrangements. No matter the size of your party, we encourage you to make a reservation; our trips are popular and sell out quickly.
