Description of Activity/Tour

Sydney is a safe, clean city with fresh air and many green parks, trees and open spaces. The many attractions include wonderful supervised surfing beaches where you can also walk or swim safely. The climate is warm in summer and mild in winter.
The Institute is situated in Sydney's central business district, looking out over the blue waters of Sydney Harbour. We are fully accredited by the Australian Government - English Language Intensive Courses to Overseas (ELICOS) - and have a capacity for 150 students. Our experienced teachers are highly qualified with specialist qualifications in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). The Institute is fully air-conditioned, has a self-access language laboratory, student study centre and library, and modern computer laboratory with multi-media and internet facilities for students.

General Description:
Every year, students of all ages (16-75 years), and from many countries and professions, attend Eurolingua's numerous language, cultural, special interest and summer programmes worldwide. Students include private individuals, mature teenagers, university and MBA students, teachers, doctors, professional and business people, corporate executives, diplomats and embassy staff, government employees, military personnel and retired people.

One-to-One Homestays (16-75 years):
Live and study abroad for 1 to 4 weeks, on a full-board basis, in the private family residence of a Eurolingua tutor. You benefit from intensive one-to-one, professional language tuition, enjoy local excursions and share usual family social, cultural and leisure activities. Total immersion in the language, culture and way of life is guaranteed. We collect you at and return you to the nearest airport or railway station. Programmes are available all year.

Group Programmes (16-75 years):
You benefit from a minimum of 15 hours (20 lessons) per week tuition in small friendly groups at one of our Institutes, with cultural visits and leisure activities. In order to maintain linguistic and cultural continuity, accommodation is with a selected, local host family. Studio apartments are also available. Open all year, with and special programmes during the summer.

Typical Day

The Programmes
General English Programme (12 weeks)
There are five levels of General English from beginners to advanced level, designed to enable students to speak, understand, read and write English in a variety of situations. Students learn about Australian culture, families, travel and transport, work and occupations, education, sports and entertainment.

English for Academic Study (4 - 24 weeks)
This programme prepares students for enrolment at Australian Universities, Technical Colleges or other Tertiary Institutions. Preparation for the First Certificate in English (FCE, Cambridge) and more advanced Cambridge examinations.

IELTS Test Preparation Course (weekly)
This is a supplementary course which prepares students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test which is required by students wishing to study in Australia.
Holiday English (1 - 4 weeks)

Short programmes and an enjoyable way for the student to rapidly improve speaking and comprehension ability in English. Covers such topics as Australian history, art, flora and fauna. Students may choose a certificate course in either Scuba Diving or First Aid and gain government accreditation.
High School Preparation Programme (4 - 48 weeks)

The Institute offers secondary school preparation from Junior to Senior High School for students planning to undertake some or all of their secondary school education in an Australian High School. The programme integrates English language, language skills, school subject content, cultural information and study skills to prepare students for High School and for the wider community.

Activities
The Institute organises various activities for students including bowling, barbecues, bush, rainforest and mountain walking, beach fun, horse-riding, tennis, ball games, sailing and golf. In addition, there are planned social events such as dinners, educational visits to other schools and colleges, movie and games nights.

Conversation Classes
These take place every afternoon at the Institute. Students gain confidence and learn to speak with Australians while having fun and making new friends.

Sleeping and meals

We arrange student accommodation with one of our local, selected host families to ensure linguistic and cultural continuity.

Other Information

Perth:
Perth is a modern, clean, safe, low-cost city which ‘floats' on the Swan River close to the Indian Ocean. The Institute is in the heart of the city and only about 15 minutes' drive from the beach.

All classrooms are well-lit, comfortably furnished, and equipped with stereos and overhead projectors. There is a Student Common Room with refreshments, satellite TV and a games area. The biggest and most modern fitness centre in Perth is located in the same building, in the heart of the city, with a special price for our students. Perth City Library and two medical centres are 5 minutes' walk from the school. The guaranteed maximum class size is 14, and the minimum age is 17. Your course-book and study folder are provided free of charge. In our Student Resource Centre (SRC) we provide free instruction in how to use the internet, with your own private e-mail address.
