Matana Beach Resort is located on Kadavu Island, the fourth largest island in the Fiji group, south of Viti Levu. The resort is located less than 15 minutes from Vunisea, the Island's 'capital' with airport and hospital, post office and some shops, and has a beautiful all-tide sandy beach. Right next to the Resort are two traditional villages where our guests can experience authentic Fijian culture and lifestyle. There are treks behind the resort with magnificent hilltop views. Scuba diving is one of the main activities at the resort, with some of the world's best dive sites just 'at the doorstep', including the Namalata, Rooper, Nabukelevu-I-ra and Great Astrolabe Reefs. Dive Kadavu is a PADI dive center on Matana Beach Resort's premises, offering a full range of dive courses. Equipped with 2 dive boats and over 60 tanks, Dive Kadavu can take you to over 40 exclusive divesites, most of them only 5 - 20 minutes from the resort. NEW: Dive and snorkel in an 'undiscovered' marine reserve, 20 minutes from the resort. There are no roads near the resort, in fact, no significant roads at all on the island, the main means of transport is by boat or by foot. Being the closest resort to the airport, getting to Matana Beach Resort is easy with a pleasant boatride along the palm-fringed coastline. For more information check our website.
The resort offers comfortable accommodation in 10 modern/traditional style Fijian Bures, 8 at the beachfront and 2 elevated Oceanview Bures. Two beachfront bures have two separate bedrooms, and one with a very spacious lounge, ideal for families or group of friends. All have their own bathrooms (hot shower), ceiling fans, safe, sun deck/balcony, outside rinse shower and dive locker. All accommodation is located within 30 feet of the perfect beach.

There are two dining areas at the resort. The raised deck, outdoor dining area used during the day, and the indoor area, mainly used for the evening meal. The menu offers a mixture of traditional Fijian fare with a focus on fresh, local fish, and international dishes and meats. There is a beachside bar area which is open in the afternoon - the perfect place to watch the sunsets. The raised outdoor dining area overlooks the resort, beach and out over the sea which is in front of the resort. Meals can be served on the balcony of your Bure if you prefer a more private atmosphere. Inside the main bure there is a dining area, a comfortable lounge with a bar, large library (over 2000 books), board games and a CD/DVD/video player. Low-speed Internet is available on a guest computer in the office area and phone cards can be purchased to make local or international phone calls from the office phone. A small souvenir shop is also situated in the office area. No pool, but the pristine warm waters of the South Pacific invite you for a swim at all tides right in front of the Resort.
The rooms (Bures) are all over 400 sq feet in size, all with ensuite bathrooms. Power is usually available 24 hours a day for all essential lighting and ceiling fans, running off battery banks overnight. We generate our own power with a generator/inverter system and use solar power for hot water. The natural sea breeze helps to feel comfortable even in the hot and humid summer season, thanks to fly screens on large louvre windows on three sides of the rooms. Most bures have queensized beds, some king size and single beds also available. There are lounge chairs in each bure as well as sun loungers or deck chairs on the sun deck or balcony.
We can arrange the following activities: Scuba diving, diving or snorkeling with mantas, sea kayak trips, paddleboards, snorkeling, fishing, waterfall treks, hiking, birdwatching, village and school visits, deserted beach picnics and snorkel trips, Vunisea sightseeing trip, church (choir singing), Fijian massage, traditional Fijian cultural experience - meke, cava ceremony and lovo feast, weaving and (NEW:)Turtle Calling.
Most flights to Fiji arrive at Nadi International airport. From there, you can get to Kadavu with a 45 minutes flight daily. There are also daily flights from Suva (30 minutes). Once you arrive at Vunisea (on Kadavu), the resort staff will transport you and your baggage to the resort via a 10 minute boat ride.
