California House Inn

California House Inn is located just 5 minutes walk from the town centre, excellent restaurants, galleries, crafts and river walk. The local area features 3 National Parks - mountains, rivers, lakes and golden sand beaches and is also well known for its diversity of art and craft, excellent seafood and wine.

California House Inn is a faithfully restored Victorian(1893) villa which is listed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust because of its architectural and historical significance. NZ native timbers feature throughout, wide sunny verandahs overlooking the quiet garden setting, English oak panelling, art nouveau stained glass windows open fires and spacious rooms. The house is for guests to enjoy and includes a lovely sitting room and library with games, travel information and morning/afternoon tea facilities.

There are 5 individually decorated guest rooms which are superbly appointed, each with ensuite bathroom including heated towel rails, toiletries and hairdryers. The house celebrates the rich colours and textures of the arts and crafts period and is complemented by tasteful frunishings, colonial oak furniture, antiques, Persian rugs, memorabilia and fresh flowers from the garden

Guests enjoy leisurely homebaked breakfasts in the sunny dining room. These may include Finnish pancakes with strawberries and cream, asparagus frittata, French toast or baked omelettes, fresh juices, muffins, coffee and a selection of teas. California House Inn is located just 5 minutes walk from the centre of town which has many fine restaurants to choose from for dinner.

From State Highway 6 from Picton turn left at the large roundabout signposted city centre.This is Trafalgar Street, the main street of Nelson. Take the first left into Wainui Street then first right into Collingwood Street. California House Inn is located at 29 Collingwood Street, 2 blocks up on the left just before the bridge.
From the West Coast and airport follow the signs to city centre all the way. At Halifax Street turn right, cross over Trafalgar Street and at the next set of lights turn left into Collingwood Street. California House Inn is located at 29 Collingwood Street, just over the bridge on the right.
