Surrounding Area

The property borders Shallow Inlet Marine Park, ie. its western boundary lies along the north eastern shore of the inlet. Thus good shore fishing is only 10 minutes walk down the road from the cottage. Within ten to fifteen minutes drive of the farm are the beaches of Waratah Bay and Sandy Point, access to Corner and Shallow inlet for boating and the entrance to Wilson's Promontory National Park with its magnificent surf beaches. Five and half kilometres from the farm is a licensed convenience store at Yanakie Township. The nearest shopping town is Foster, just off the South Gippsland Highway, being only nineteen kilometres away. Should medical attention be needed the town has a hospital and a medical centre.

Vacation Rental Property

Girriwana Cottage is situated on an established grazing property of the same name. The cottage was the first farmhouse on the property, constructed just after the Second World War by a soldier settler, in the style of a late 19th century farmhouse. It still retains its original open fireplace. The cottage now rests in the centre of the homestead settlement surrounded by an established garden, nestling next to a swimming pool with a solar heater and dome. The area is well protected and shaded by trees. There are pleasant walks in the vicinity of the cottage on the farm itself.

Sleeps & # of Bedrooms

In addition to your food for all meals, you will need to bring your own linen and towels for the one double bed, one queen sized bed and the single futon that lies on the floor. Both beds and the futon are supplied with doonas and pillows. Alternatively, sheets & towels can be hired for the cost of $5+GST/set/week. We provide cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. It is now simply but adequately furnished for the holidaymaker. There are two bedrooms(One queen sized bed, the other a double sized bed), a bathroom with full sized bath, lounge, kitchen and laundry. The septic toilet is separate but undercover, just off the porch.

Amenities

Naturally there is a full sized fridge and stove, in addition to a washing machine and dryer in the cottage. Also included is a TV and stereo cassette/radio. Heating is by way of an open log fire in the lounge, with electric blow heaters for the bedrooms. Should you wish, we have a video available for hire for an extra $7.50/day.
