River Valley is a unique lodge situated in a stunningly beautiful location beside the Rangitikei River on the Central North Island of New Zealand. It is one of the original homes of New Zealand white water rafting, with a Grade 5 section finishing outside the front door, and a fun family rafting section starting at the same place.

River Valley Stables, the base for a range of NZ Horse Treks, perfectly compliments the other outdoor adventures on offer.

River Valley also offers multiday trips for both rafting and horse riding, from 1 night to 5 nights. Furthermore, River Valley Lodge is the first place to offer wooden dory trips in all of Australasia. Dory trips run down the Whanganui River and 4,5,6 day trips are on offer.

The expertise, knowledge and insights accumulated since 1982 over three generations of guides, will ensure that there is just the right adventure for you.

River Valley is not all about adventure however. With the addition of the River Valley Spa, some indulgence in the way of 2 saunas and a hot tub.

River Valley is unique in this combination of family, multi generations, location, and great things to see and do.

Restaurant:At River Valley Lodge we major in traditional country style cooking. This means mostly roast meals, but occasionally casseroles at night, with a mix of fresh seasonal vegetables from the lodge gardens. Entrees are normally soups, fresh salads, or selections of local cheeses and spreads. Dinner is set menu, and served at a fixed time. Our meals are based around fresh salads from the Lodge gardens and locally sourced meat. Our meat partners are Bostock's Organic Chicken Farm and Mangarara Free-Range Beef Station both located near Hastings over the Ruahine Ranges.

Our cooks certainly know how to prepare extremely delicious desserts. Make sure to check out the dessert menu board, and prepare to indulge.

The Fulcrum Pit Bar:Some great stories get told here. After a hard days adventuring, or an even harder one relaxing, this is the place to settle down for a couple of "quiet" ones. An extensive range of NZ craft beers, wines and spirits are carried.

River Valley Spa: Our spa pool overlooks the river, set amongst native beech trees.

Alternatively you could let tension melt away in our Scandinavian sauna. This wood fired sauna is the traditional deal. With room for up to 6 people and a wood fired stove, this is just the place to sweat out a few toxins while socialising with friends or family.

For the ultimate detox you could choose the infra-red Sauna, medically approved approach to more efficient sauna.

Facilities are available for groups for conference or retreat purposes. Our smaller meeting room is situated in a beautiful setting overlooking the river at the water's edge, there is a larger meeting room upstairs in the main lodge.

If your group has specialist requirements, please contact us so we can put a package together that meets your specific needs. To break up your sessions consider one of the activities that we have on offer. These can range from a simple game of golf, to a Grade 5 rafting trip, to an interpretive bush walk. These activities can be structured to get a Team Building benefit from them.
