Description of Active Adventure

There is a feeling you have landed in a place so remote that time stands still. These sparsely populated islands are connected by long white sand spits where sea-birds are the only sunbathers.

We take you to miles of footpaths threading along tall red sandstone cliffs with sea stacks carved by the incessant ocean. As we wander along we can't help wondering at the hardiness of fishermen living here for hundreds of years in this pristine spot so far from the mainland.

The "Maggies", as they are sometimes called, were settled by Acadians fleeing deportation in 1755, so you'll hear plenty of French spoken in the tidy villages. There are also intriguing pockets of English settlement created by shipwrecked passengers and sailors who decided to stay. You'll understand why when you sample the delicious French cuisine for which the islands are famous.

We stay at an inn steeped in history and lore that was once a Captain's mansion. A bilingual guide tells the stories, explain the terrain, and talk about the flora and fauna of the beloved islands.

The Adventure starts and ends in Charlottetown, on Prince Edward Island (we will take you by ferry). If you prefer to fly there you can rendez-vous with us at Cap-aux-Meules.

Typical Day

Our Iles de la Madeleine Adventure is an easy tour. Our hikes are approximately 3 to 7 miles per day, with choices some days.

Age range, type of group

Our guests come from all parts of the world, with 65 % of our guests originating from the United States, 30% from Canada, and the remainder from outside North America. The average age of our guests is between 40 and 65, with 15% falling outside of this range. Females hold a slight majority over the males. Regardless of age or country of origin all of our guests enjoy walking, the great outdoors and are curious about the natural and human history of the areas they are visiting.

Our company policy discourages children under the age of 16 from joining one of our tours, however we are able to set up custom tours for groups and families.

Sleeping and meals

We want our guests to enjoy the best inns the area has to offer. We look for charm, interesting history, friendliness, great food and a beautiful setting. Some of our inns are luxurious with gourmet menus, others are smaller, historic, family-run inns serving home-style meals often served with food fresh from the garden.
When is is appropriate, we dine nearby at the best restaurants we can find. Our delicious and healthful picnics served in idyllic settings give you the best food the region has to offer. We pay special attention to the dietary needs of our guests.

Restrictions

We encourage our guests to choose adventures that are suited to their fitness level.

Rates

Iles de la Madeleine Adventure is 6 days and 5 nights for $1100 US or $1540 CDN

There is a 20% charge for single supplements.
