Surrounding Area

Eskdale bed & breakfast is on the edge of the West End restaurant and coffee shop district. The area is an old one with a strong Aboriginal tradition and a mix of European and Asian cultures, particularly Greek, Turkish, Arabic and Vietnamese. Brisbane's major tourist attraction, the Southbank Parklands, are just 1 km away. Here you can walk along the river promenade, swim in the artificial lagoon, eat at the specialist restaurants, see a film or take a catamaran cruise on the river. Also at Southbank is the Cultural Centre, housing the Concert Hall, Lyric Theatre, Art Gallery, Museum, State Library and Gallery of Modern Art.

Accommodations

The house was built in 1907 and is typical of the high-set wooden houses traditionally built in the northern half of Australia. Its veranda and central hall help to catch the breezes and the high ceilings and tall windows add to the airy quality.There is a kitchen garden but most of the ornamental plants are Australian natives. The garden can be appreciated from the back deck or by walking through it.

There are four rooms, all individually decorated. Double, queen, king and long single beds are available.

Directions

Take bus 196, 197 or 199 from Adelaide Street to stop 7 and walk forward 100 m to Vulture Street. Or walk 700 m west from Vulture Street station. Or drive: From the south, take the Stanley Street exit from the South East Freeway, and follow Stanley Street into Vulture Street. From the north, over the Story Bridge, turn right into Stanley Street and follow it into Vulture Street. From the west, come into Brisbane on Ipswich Road, turn left into Stanley Street at Woolloongabba and follow it into Vulture Street.
