Description of Active Adventure

Wildwater Ltd. Rafting offers whitewater river adventures and team building activities on five rivers in the Southeast.

The NANTAHALA RIVER is one of America's favorite whitewater playgrounds. Eight miles of constant waves and swift, clear currents make it a delight for all ages and groups looking for an introduction to whitewater rafting. Skill Level is mild to moderate. Its a great trip for seniors and families with children weighing at least 60 lbs.


The PIGEON RIVER is close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park & Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN. There are two five mile stretches of river, the Upper Pigeon Gorge and the Lower Pigeon Fun Float. The Lower Pigeon has class II & III rapids; the Upper Pigeon has class III & IV rapids. Both stretches of river provide fun & fast-paced whitewater excitement but are not strenuous. No previous whitewater experience is necessary. Minimum age is 8 years old or at least 80 lbs.


The OCOEE RIVER has rapids that are big and closely spaced which make it one of the most popular whitewater rivers in the nation. No other river in the East offers the degree of challenge, safety and consistent water flow as the Ocoee. The Upper Ocoee was the location of the 1996 Olympic Whitewater events. Considered exciting and strenuous, but no previous whitewater experience is needed. Minimum age is 12 years old.


The CHATTOOGA RIVER received "Wild & Scenic" designation by a Congressional Act in 1971. The river offers a true wilderness setting with stunning scenery and smaller trips, it is a unique whitewater experience. Trips vary from mild to strenuous. Age minimums range from 8 to 13, dependent on Section. Section III of the Chattooga is the perfect trip for novices and family groups. Section IV is the ultimate challenge for whitewater paddlers. It covers the steepest section of river currently being run on a commercial basis in the Southeast. The Chattooga is a free-flowing river, so water levels vary.

The CHEOAH RIVER is a nine-mile stretch of narrow technical whitewater newly opened for commercial rafting and kayaking in Western, NC. It is located outside of the mountain community of Robbinsville, west of Bryson City and the Nantahala Gorge. It is two hours west of Asheville, NC. It begins below Santeetlah Lake Dam, parallels Hwy 129 and finishes at Calderwood Lake. Beautiful scenery, limited availability and challenge make this a standout trip.

Sleeping and meals

Wildwater Ltd Rafting offers lodging at and nearby the Chattooga and Nantahala River Rafting Centers and has relationships with a full range of lodging establishments, including campgrounds, at all four River Rafting Centers. Visit our website or contact our reservationists for information regarding lodging and dining in each area.

NANTAHALA RIVER trips are 1/2 day.
A meal is included with the Express Plus. Wildwater is affiliated with Falling Waters Adventure Resort across the street from the Rafting Center. Falling Waters has a very unique Yurt Village and a Group Lodge, which is ideal for large groups or retreats.

PIGEON RIVER trips are 1/2 day. No meals are included.

OCOEE RIVER trips are 1/2 day. No meals are included on the trip. There is a Deck-Deli restaurant at the Ocoee Rafting Center.
The Ocoee Combo Trip (Middle & Upper sections) does include lunch.

The CHATTOOGA RIVER has 1/2 day, full-day, and multi-day rafting trips and clinics.
The Mini trip is 1/2 day and has a snack included.
Section III & Section IV are full day trips and both include a buffet deli-style lunch on the river.
The Overnighter, which is two days and one night, includes buffet lunch on river both days, steak dinner, and hot breakfast at the campsite. Wildwater provides tents.
The Canoe and Kayak Clinics, which are a full day trip, include a buffet lunch on river.

The CHEOAH RIVER has lunch served beside the river catered by a local restaurant. Included with all Cheoah trips.

Additionally, groups may arrange for a variety of meals at any Wildwater Ltd Rafting Center. Speak with a reservationist regarding your specific needs.

Restrictions

No pets on rafting trips.

The Nantahala, Pigeon & Ocoee Rivers are dam-released. Trips offered are based on water release schedules.

The Chattooga River's Wild and Scenic status restricts access. Therefore, guests are required to hike through the 1/4-mile protective corridor to and from the river. Guests should consider the strenuous nature of the trip and expect to assist in carrying equipment. Water levels and available river sections will vary with the season.

Other Information

Wildwater's Chattooga Rafting Center has a state of the art High and Low Ropes Course with 8 High Elements and a 40 ft. Climbing Wall with an auto-belay system.

The Pigeon Rafting Center also has a 40 ft. Climbing Wall with an auto-belay system and a zip-line.

Wildwater Ltd. provides all the necessary rafting equipment: helmets (where required), paddles, life jackets, inflatable rafts, trained guides, transportation to and from the river back to our Rafting Centers.

Discounts Offered

Wildwater Ltd. offers 20% discounts in the Spring (March-May) and Fall (September-November), plus group discounts throughout the season.
