Surrounding Area

We are adjacent to 800+ acres of public land with a wonderful large pond/lake and numerous hiking and nordic skiing trails. Snowmobile and ski trails cross our property as well as this public land. The capitol of Maine in nearby Augusta offers a wealth of cultural attractions including the newly renovated State House, Olmstead-designed capitol park, the Maine State Museum, and Old Fort Western which once guarded the head of tide in the Kennebec River. Hallowell, where the inn is located, offers a varied selection of restaurants and unique antique and other shops in a national historic district on the banks of the Kennebec River. Really lots to do in the area, but off the beaten track without lots of tourists. We'll be glad to help you plan your day whether it be museums, shopping, cycling, canoeing, fishing, hiking, or many other activities. See our website for more details.

Accommodations

We offer 8 rooms with all private baths. Some rooms have HUGE whirlpool tubs big enough for two to comfortably relax with six powerful jets. Some rooms have fireplaces, and others private decks, too. See our website for more details. We are on 130 acres of serene rolling fields and woods with many trails and a secluded swimming pond just inside the woods. Visit the menagerie of farm animal pets down at the barn after breakfast, or feed them through the fence anytime! Room to feel at home with a common living room, dining room, pub, common guest kitchen with refrigerator, sink, and microwave, and art gallery featuring local artists providing lots of common space. You won't feel overcrowded while relaxing in country comfort.

Rooms/Suites

Private Baths in all our rooms. Huge double whirlpools, fireplaces, and private decks available in some rooms. All rooms feature air conditioning, individual heat control, phones with dataports, cable TV, VCR, DVD player, wireless internet, and pastoral views of fields and/or woods. Rooms are spacious, furnished with country antiques, comfy beds, fine linens, and newly redecorated. You won't feel overcrowded while relaxing in country comfort. See our website for more details.

Amenities

Common living room with fireplace that we use almost nightly! Room to feel at home with a common living room with fireplace, dining room with fireplace, pub, common guest kitchen with refrigerator, sink, and microwave, and art gallery featuring local artists providing lots of common space. Conference facilities indoors for groups up to 150, and for up to an additional 150 guests with attached tent for larger events such as weddings. Private secluded swimming hole in the woods. Phones in each rooms can hook to the intenet. Lots of hiking trails, and great on or off-road bicycling. Nearby 600 acres of public land with pristine pond as well as numerous trails for hiking or cross-country skiing.

Services Offered

Full liquor service. Free local calls and no upcharge on long-distance calls made with a calling card. Tea/Coffee and home-baked goodies are always available in our 24-hour guest kitchen with refrigerator, sink, microwave, and fully stocked cabinets. Policies & Restrictions

No pets. No smoking anywhere indoors (outdoors on porch or private decks OK). Prefer well-behaved kids so as not to disturb other guests. Gay/Lesbian friendly.

Rates & Availability

See our web site for details on each room. Rates vary by season as well as type of room. Rates for two people range from $75 to $190 including a full breakfast. Singles are less, and there are discounts for stays of 5 nights or more.

Other Information

Rated "Best b&b hands down" by a statewide readers poll (Maine Times, 1997). Selected by Travel+Leisure as one of "30 Great inns" in 2002, and an "Editors' Pick" in Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide to New England in both 2002 and 2003.

Directions

(a detailed map can be found on our web site):

From the South: Take I-95 North. You will then need to take an exit just south of Portland onto I-295 north at Exit 44, or north of Portland at Exit 52 onto the Falmouth Spur over to I-295 north. Continue taking I-295 north which reconnects with I-95 north just south of Augusta, and continue on I-95 north. Take Exit 109, the first Augusta Exit, off I-95.

From the North: Take Exit 109A, the last Augusta Exit, off I-95. (Don't take Exit 109B, since this just misses the next turn!)

Then, from either direction: Stay in the left lane on the exit ramp for Route 202 West (toward Winthrop), then as soon as you get onto Route 202 West, scoot right over into the left turn lane and take a left turn onto Whitten Road (at the first traffic light only a few hundred feet from the end of the exit ramp). Then just watch carefully for our blue and white signs directing you through a series of turns during the next 4 miles to Maple Hill Farm bed and breakfast on the Inn Road (our driveway) off the Outlet Road in Hallowell.

Alternate Directions:
From Downtown Augusta rotary, take Route 201 South about 1 1/2 miles (or From Downtown Gardiner, take Route 201 North about 4 miles), then turn away from the river onto Central Street in Downtown Hallowell at the Clock (right turn from Augusta, left turn from Gardiner) and proceed about 3 miles, following the blue and white signs to Maple Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast on the Inn Road (our driveway) off the Outlet Road in Hallowell.

Discounts Offered

10% discount for stays of 5 nights or more. Rates are lower off-season (winter) and slightly lower outside of July and August.

Scott Cowger (View My Profile)
Owner-Innkeeper of the Maple Hill Farm B&B Inn and Conference Center in Hallowell, Maine, just outside the capital city of Augusta. I was featured as one of "The Next" by Mainebiz magazine in 2008 for our groundbreaking work in alternative energy on a commercial scale here at the Inn. The ten "Next-ers" are people shaping the future of Maine's economy, and it was an honor to be selected by Mainebiz. I have been innkeeping at Maple Hill Farm for 17 years and it is a labor of love since we are open year-round and seven days a week, also hosting conferences, meetings, weddings, etc. for groups from 2 to 300 including custom catering and full bar service right here on the farm. We have a farm animal menagerie and hay the fields to keep them fed.
