1790s B&B on an historic Connecticut town green. Seven rooms and luxury suites. Handmade and antique furnishings. Full breakfast and afternoon teacart. Perfect location for a relaxing get-away, a visit to UConn or day-tripping southern New England.
The rural town of Tolland lies in Connecticut's eastern hills, halfway between Hartford and Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Named in 1713, the town grew with small farms surrounding a classic English town green, where town offices, churches, taverns and stage coach stop were located.
Tolland has retained much of its original architecture and the town green is now a historic district with two small museums in place. The Tolland inn stands on the green and is a great location for just getting away, antiquing in the area, visiting the nearby University of Connecticut main campus at Storrs, or for daytrips to Old Sturbridge Village, Mystic, Hartford attractions, the Brimfield Antique Shows, Six Flags and more.
Accommodations
Our building was erected in the late 1790s as a Greek Revival Colonial house. As the need for guest accommodations grew in town the home was turned into an inn, and expanded.
We have spent the last fifteen years restoring, refining and maintaining the old house with the goal of retaining the look and feel of an antique, while providing the comforts that travellers now expect... and a few they are surprised to see! The three-hole out-house is gone; all of our rooms have private baths, and we've even added hot tubs to three of them!
Stephen, one of the innkeepers, is a desiger and builder of fine furniture with a working shop here at the inn. His furniture work can be seen throughout the inn, mixed with antiques, and his touches are evident everywhere from the chess boards to the light fixtures. We've tried to create a comfortable and interesting place to visit.
Rooms/Suites
Our seven rooms and suites are arranged with two on the first floor, four on the second, and one on the third. They offer a nice range of features and prices from a cozy room with queen canopy bed, private bath, to a suite with king canopy bed, full sitting room with see-through gas fireplace, fridge, private bath, and two-person hot tub.
In addition to our full breakfast, we roll out an afternoon tea cart from which guests may help themslves. We have Mac computers with internet availability and for the receiving of faxes. There is a large back yard and back porch with rockers for those with the good sense to relax a little!
Policies & Restrictions
We do not allow smoking anywhere within the building, and we cannot take pets in with our guests. We observe a two-night minimum booking for weekends and a two-week cancellation period on deposits.
Rates & Availability
In general, our double-occupancy rates go from $95. to $169. per night. You can see details, rates and on-line availability on the Tolland Inn web site.
