On September 11, 2000, the American Embassy in Kathmandu disseminated the following information to the local American community:
The American Embassy in Kathmandu has information indicating that official United States Government installations and other locations in Kathmandu frequented by Americans, such as the Phora Durbar recreation area and international schools, may have been targeted for terrorist attack. American citizens in Nepal are advised to exercise caution when visiting areas such as those noted above. American citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity to Nepalese police and to the Regional Security Office of the American Embassy.
Americans in Nepal are also urged to register and obtain current information about the security situation at the Consular Section of the American Embassy in Kathmandu.
