Active Adventure

New Zealand is recognized as a wilderness destination, with its diverse range of landscapes from snow capped mountain ranges, river systems, lakes, and a seemingly endless coast line. Travelers to New Zealand revel in the compact nature of the country; there are very few places in the world where you can experience such diversity within a small area. With the diverse landscape comes a wide range of flora and fauna, from alpine herb gardens, dense rainforest, to the sparse vegetation of the North Island Volcanic Desert Lands. There is something different around every corner, even the weather is changeable, you can be in torrential rain on the South Island's West Coats and then drive 2hrs and be basking in the dry heat of the Canterbury Plains.

Understanding this diversity enables Backcountry Concepts to design tours that maximize our client's experiences. We have been working and playing in this environment longer that we can remember, priding ourselves on delivering safe and meaningful experiences in the backcountry. We also strive to minimise our impact by adopting the environmental impact code. This will help preserve the environment for future generations.

Typical Day

High Country Discovery (4WD Tour)

This tour takes you into the heart of the Canterbury High Country, with its impressive views and interesting cultural and geological history you will find this tour rewarding on many different levels. You will be transported in one of our comfortable 4WD vehicles, visiting significant geological and cultural sites, as well as some breath taking scenery. In the middle of the day we will drive to the banks of the Waimakariri River for a gourmet lunch.

We cater to any age range. Our group sizes are small, usally running at a max of 9 people.
