Cartwrights Ocean Front Cottages is located on the edge of a small, quiet fishing town called Tarpum Bay, on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The cottages are located just 50 feet from the calm, clear waters of Exuma Sound. Directly in front of the cottages, magnificent sunsets can be watched from the patios. There is a staircase immediately in front of the cottages, that leads to the water's edge for swimming and snorkeling. Just a minute's walk from the cottages, small fishing piers market freshly caught seafood (fish, conch, lobster), which is available almost daily. At the cottages, around 2-3 pm daily, the guests can watch the local fishing boats motor up with fresh caught seafood for sale on the local docks, at bargain prices. Just west of the cottages, the rugged coastline offers the opportunity for hikers/ adventure seekers to explore the undeveloped coast for miles. Just a minute's walk, east of the cottages, a four mile stretch of white powder sand beach offers excellent picnic areas, with breezy casurina trees shading quiet beach areas. Within a 15 mile radius of the cottages, there are a number of white and pink sand beaches on both the Atlantic and Caribbean side of the island, which offer great swimming, snorkeling and picnic opportunities. It is the usual thing to go to the beaches, and find no one else there. Local food stores and small restaurants, offering american and local cuisine/ dishes, are located within the town of Tarpum Bay, within walking distances of the cottages. There are a number of other eateries within a 15 mile radius of the cottages.
In the next door town of Rock Sound, just 7 miles from the cottages, a visit the Blue Ocean Hole is a "must". Located within the heart of the town, the ocean hole is filled with sea water, the level of which rises and falls with the tide. National Geographic has explored the hole on a few dives, and it has been said that the hole is "bottomless". There is an underground tunnel which leads to/ from the sea, and the hole is filled with sea-life, including a variety of tropical fish, and now and then, a turtle can be spotted. The fish gather at the entrance to the Blue Hole, upon the sound of approaching visitors, in anticipation of being fed. They literally eat the bread right out of your hand.

Cartwrights Ocean Front Cottages sits on the western end of the town of Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, in a quiet part of town. Elevated about 15 feet above sea level, and located just 50 feet from the water's edge, the cottages offer magnificent sea views for 180 degrees, and sunsets which conjure up a romantic atmosphere. The grounds of the property is landscaped with a lawn and hedged casurina trees. Each cottage has an ocean-front patio, with patio furniture for tanning/ relaxing. The cottages are fully furnished, with all linens, towels, included. Each cottage has a full kitchen, one or two full baths, with tub and shower combo, complete living and dining room areas, ceiling fans throughout, and air conditioning in the bedrooms. Fresh linens, including beach towels, are provided as needed, and maid service is provided every three days.

There are one, two and three bedroom cottages. The one bedroom cottage comes with a complete living/ dining room area, full kitchen, full bath, and the choice of a bedroom with a king-size bed, or two twin beds. The one bedroom cottage can sleep two adults. The two bedroom cottage comes equipped with a full kitchen, full living/ dining room, full bath, and one bedroom with a king-size bed and two twins in the second bedroom. The two bedroom cottage can comfortably sleep a party of 4. The three bedroom cottage comes equipped with the same features of the two bedroom cottage, except that there are two full bathrooms. The third bedroom has a twin and a double bed. There is a futon sofa in the living room of the three bedroom cottage. The cottage can accommodate up to 8 persons.

The cottages feature Television with U.S. Cable channels, the local Bahamas tv station, and HBO. There are radios in each cottage, air conditioning in the bedrooms, ceiling fans throughout all bedrooms and living/ dining room areas. There are no telephones in the cottages, but cellular phones based in the U.S.A. roam on the local telephone network (Bahamas Telecommunications Company BTC). The kitchens have microwaves, gas range stoves with 4 burner cooktops and ovens/broiler, full refrigerator/ freezers. Coffeemakers, toasters, cupboards/ cabinets, and all cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc are included. All bathrooms have a tub/ shower combo, face basin and water closet.

Maid service is offered after every third night of rental, and is included in the rental rate. We also provide maps of the island, information on beaches to visit, and other points of interest. We take care of rental car arrangements and transfers to/ from the airport, to ensure that you get the best deal on these services.

Reservations are secured by mailing out to us, a U.S. $ bank draft or international postal money order, for half of the total rental, or three night's deposit, whichever is greater. For cancellations of reservations up to 45 days prior to arrival, a 50% refund will be made, or the guests has the option to visit at a later date, within a 1 year time frame. Reservation cancellations less than 45 days before arrival will result in a nil refund. No pets allowed. Minimum age to rent cottages is 18 years old.

For a one bedroom cottage rental (up to 2 persons), the nightly rate is US$150 per night, taxes and grats included. The rate for a two bedroom cottage (up to 4 persons), is US$175 per night. The rate for a three bedroom cottage (up to 6 persons) is US$195 per night. For the three bedroom cottage rental, up to 8 persons can be accommodated. For the 7th and 8th guest, there is a supplement of US$15 per person per night.

***SPECIAL PROMOTION*** For rents of 5 nights or greater - take 25% off the total rental, if paying for entire stay at the time of booking. Non-refundable.

As for getting here, to the island of Eleuthera, there are two nearby airports of arrival. Governors Harbour airport (airport code - GHB), is located 30 miles form the cottages, and offers daily flights non-stop flights from Ft Lauderdale, Florida on Continental Airlines. Rock Sound airport (airport code: RSD), is located 7 miles from the cottages, and offers twice daily domestic flights from Nassau, Bahamas to Eleuthera, via Bahamasair, Southernair and Pineapple air. From the USA, Canada and Europe,a number of airlines fly into Nassau Airport (airport code: NAS). These include American Airlines, U.S. Air, Jet Blue, Air Tran, Delta, Continental Airlines, Air Canada, British Airways and Bahamasair.

Upon entering the town of Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, take the Queen's Highway to the waterfront, on Bay Street. At the waterfront, at the St Colomba Church, head west, along the waterfront on Bay Street. Continue for about 1/2 mile. The cottages are on your left.
