Surrounding Area

Tobago is in the Southern Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela and linked with Trinidad. It is a quiet, unspoilt island with a relaxed , laid-back atmosphere. Windy Edge is situated in the hills with panoramic views over both the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans. The nearest beach is only 10 minutes away, town 10 mins, airport 20 mins. Golf, tennis, diving, snorkelling, birdwatching, deepsea fishing, sailing trips and hikes into the rain forest are all easily arranged. There are many good restaurents within easy reach, and meals can be prepared at home for you if required by our housekeeper who is a great cook. Car hire can be arranged for guests if required.

Vacation Rental Property

The Ambassador's House,(so-called because it was originally built by a former US Ambassador to Japan) at Windy Edge is a large family house in a fabulous position in the hills with sensational views over oceans and rainforest. From its wide verandas you can chill out with a book or dine while marvelling at stunning sunsets over the Caribbean. The mature gardens of 2.5 acres are well maintained with tropical flowers and fruit trees and an area left wild as nature reserve for birds. The pool is 32ftx16ft, serviced 3 times a week. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings fitted with ceiling fans and the whole place has a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. An ideal 'home from home' means we have many returning guests.

Sleeps & # of Bedrooms

Sleeps 10, with 2 additional put-up beds available if required for extra children, baby's cot also provided. 5 bedrooms - 1 king bed, 1 queen bed 1 double and 2 twin bedded. 4 bathrooms. Bedrooms have ceiling fans and mosquito nets. Windows and sliding doors to veranda have flyscreening. Comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. All rooms open onto wide verandas which surround the house, and there is plenty of room for everyone. Toddler-friendly and suitable for the elderly guest.

TV, music centre with tape deck, radio and CD player. Well-equipped kitchen, 3 large fridges 1 freezer. Washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher. Well-stocked library and table tennis. Tel/fax, plus broadband internet connection. Wheelchair access, no internal stairs.

Services Offered

Daily maid/housekeeper keeps the house clean and tidy and will cook, shop, babysit by prior arrangement. She will also give any assistance needed to arrange tours and visits for guests.

Rates & Availability

Prices vary according to the season; low season US$200 per night, high season US$250 per night. This is for the whole house which sleeps up to 10 people (or 12 if the put-up beds are used). Discounts for low occupancy are given, so please apply to the owner if your party is 4 people or less. There is also an availability calendar on the Windy Edge website.

Other Information

This is a wonderful place to visit for a family holiday or special birthday or anniversary occasion. The house is secluded but not isolated, a peaceful atmosphere prevails and the birds have to be seen to be believed. There are many exotic fruit trees in the garden for the guests to sample manges, papaya, avocado, and many different citrus fruits as well as banana and pineapple plants, all in their own season of course. Our housekeeper is friendly and helpful as well as being a wonderful cook. The beaches are easily accessible and shops and supermarkets 10 minutes by car. We are about 20 mins drive from the airport, 10 mins to our nearest lovely palm-fringed beach and 10 mins to the main town Scarborough, where there are banks, pharmacies, restaurents, food shops and a vibrant local market for fruit and vegetables. From here you can take the ferry to Trinidad.
A small supermarket, bakery, local take-away and fruit shop are just 5 minutes down the road.
