You can ski the Andes, hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, raft through the Costa Rican jungle or ride a horse across Patagonia. Equally you can enjoy a peaceful Inn to Inn stoll in Andalucia, relax at a remote tropical hideaway in Belize or visit the vineyards of La Rioja.

Typical Day

Typical day on our Atacama & Patagonia walking holiday.

9am: relaxed breakfast in your very comfortable small hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
10am: choose to head off cycling across the salt flats or riding horses into the hills. Either way you will enjoy constant views of the high Andes and volcanic peaks. Snacks and drinks are provided along the way.
2pm: return to San Pedro for lunch at leisure in one of the towns many characterful little restaurants.
4pm: set off by 4x4 to a spot just outside town to walk. Start from a viewpoint over the dunes of Valley of the Moon. Walk gently downhill to reach a narrow gorge in the Salt Mountains. The rocks cool and contract as the sun fades, crackling and popping all around you. Reach a natural amphitheatre where you will be greeted with wine and snacks. Relax as the sun sets.
7pm: return to San Pedro for supper.

Varies by holiday - mix of couples & singles.

Sleeping and meals

Generally stay in first class locally owned small hotels. Lots of character, good locations and very comfortable.

In remote areas of Patagonia we use the mountain 'refuges' - chalet style communal accommodation.

Restrictions

In the Atacama this holiday involves day walks, some of which are at high altitude. In Patagonia you walk for 4 days across Torres del Paine, staying in refuges along the way. This part of the holiday involves your carrying a light pack for several days in a row. Although the pace of the walking is gentle you should be reasonably fit.

A 2 week fully guided, small group Atacama & Patagonia holiday to Chile will cost in the region of 3,500usd. This includes internal flights, hotels, guiding, activities, private transport but excludes international flights.
