Surrounding Area

The XVII century estate is located at the crossroads of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. One of the less inhabited areas of Italy, the unspoilt countryside is a fantastic mix of undulating woodland, lakes, renaissance palaces, medieval castles and etruscan settlements going back 3000 years. The castle is perfectly situated between Rome (135km) and Siena (110km) close to the famous historical towns of Orvieto and Viterbo (35km).The crystal clear waters of the largest volcanic lake in Europe, Lake Bolsena, are only 8 km away and offer plenty of watersport activities in the summer .

Castello di S.Cristina is a country Resort offering its guests comfortable accommodation, in either self catering apartments or b&b bedrooms. The accommodation is situated in the renovated "borgo" just below the castle, and the cottages and rooms are all furnished in the traditional country style of the area.

Directions

AIRPORTS AND AIRLINES

Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino are the closest airports. It is approx. 1 ½ to 1 ¾ hour drive from the airports to Castello di Santa Cristina.

Rome Fiumicino: This is due west of Rome and is the airport for most scheduled international flights (Alitalia, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta, United, etc).

Rome Ciampino: This is southwest of Rome. Certain “budget” airlines, such as Ryanair and Easyjet, fly from the UK to this airport.

TRANSPORTATION

Car: We recommend that you try to rent a car at the airport as driving is really the best way to get around. When making your car reservations make sure the price is all-inclusive as mandatory insurance and tax can double the price of the rental. Please note that you must also have your headlights switched on when driving on the highway.

Train: There are trains from the center of Rome to Orvieto. Orvieto is 35kms from Santa Cristina.

Taxis: There is one local taxi firm in Bolsena but for trips from Orvieto to Santa Cristina we recommend Taxi Orvieto: + 39.0763.301903

DIRECTIONS

From Rome Fiumicino airport to Bolsena (approx. journey time 1 ½ hours):
Exit the airport following signs towards Rome. Keep going for approx 12 kms until road joins the G.R.A. (Rome orbital). Head north on GRA following signs for “A1 - Firenze”. After approx 28 kms take A1 north signed to FIRENZE. After approx 40 kms exit A1 at ORTE and follow signs to VITERBO. After approx 20 kms you come to VITERBO - take SS2 north signed to Monetfiascone and Siena. After approx 25 kms you will come into Bolsena.


From Rome Ciampino airport to Bolsena (approx. journey time 1 ¾ hours):
Turn RIGHT out of the airport and join the G.R.A. (Rome orbital) towards FIRENZE. Continue northwards for approx 20 kms, then take A1 north signed to FIRENZE. After approx 40 kms exit A1 at ORTE and follow signs to VITERBO. After approx 20 kms come to VITERBO - take SS2 north signed to Monetfiascone and Siena. After approx 25 kms will come into Bolsena.

From Rome airports to Santa Cristina (approx. journey time – 1 ½ - 2 hours):
Exit either airport and follow signs for the A12 north towards CIVITAVECCHIA. Continue for approx 60 kms until A12 dead ends into the SS1 Aurelia (bear RIGHT onto the SS1). Continue 25 kms north on SS1 Aurelia towards MONTALTO DI CASTRO. Exit at MONTALTO DI CASTRO and continue straight until intersection, turn RIGHT following the SS312 through CANINO and then VALENTANO. 9 kms after Valentano, turn RIGHT after service station onto SS74 towards GROTTE DI CASTRO. After approx 4 kms, turn LEFT at small sign to “Castello di Santa Cristina”. Drive down small lane for 3 kms until come to Santa Cristina.
