Villennes-sur-Seine is jewel of a village (5,000 inhabitants) that for the last 100 years was the favored country escape for Parisians seeking serenity and fresh air on the banks of the Seine River. (Emile Zola had his villa only 5 minutes from our inn
.) We are only 25 minutes from Paris, the most popular tourist destination in the world, with all its varied delights in every season.(Trains usually run every 1/2 hr until about 12:30 am.) We are also easily accessible to charming Versailles with its stunning chateau and are 1 hour's drive away from Giverny, Monet's delightful home and garden. Disneyland Paris is also an hour or so away.Another lovely town, St. Germain-en-Laye, where Louis the XIV was born, is nearby with its famous history museum. A bit farther afield is the magnificent Chartres Cathedral.
We are 5 minutes' away from a lovely 18 hole golf course and riding stables, and near a lake with boating, bike paths, and other sporting facilities, and the inn is next to a forest for walks and biking.
We love having families and can take up to 4 kids as well as their parents at a reasonable cost, with everyone together enjoying the garden, dining together, and especially playing with Hayley, the poodle mascot who loves kids!
Dormouse House is an exceptional all-wood home off-street with wrap-around verandas and decking, all surrounded by a flower garden, lawn, fish pond with water lilies, and relaxing seating areas. In the rear of the property is a greenhouse, vegetable and fruit garden, and rare-breed hens, all supplying produce, flowers, and eggs in season for our guests!
The inn features French oak floors, oriental rugs, art and antiques from all over the world, yet is designed for comfort. Guests are invited to enjoy the spacious living room with fireplace, the 'petit salon' with English-satellite television and video, the tranquil dining room, and the sunny 'winter garden' room featuring tropical plants and jacuzzi. All of these rooms open out into the garden via multiple glass french doors through which one may enjoy garden views in all seasons.
There is also a large, well-equipped library and a 'music room', both with breathtaking cathedral-window panoramic views. Here you will find a high-speed internet connection at your disposal.
The 'blue' guestroom features a view over the Seine Valley and is equipped with a high-quality double bed and linens, a dresser, antique dressing table and chairs, closet, good reading lights, etc. This guestroom is set in its own private suite comprising hall, large separate toilet with washbasin, and bathroom with stall shower, washbasin, heated towel racks (in winter) and terry bathrobes. You will also find an assortment of toiletries and a hairdryer. The very spacious 'rose suite' (on its own floor) features a new double bed, armoire, desk, and large sofa and has a newly-installed private bathroom with tiled shower and heated towel racks (in winter). It is on its own floor off the 'music room' (with cathedral window view of the garden and Seine valley). This larger room can accommodate either the futon or the folding bed ($50.00 each) or it/they can be put in the music room at no extra charge.(This option is not available to 2 adults (they must share a bed or take both rooms.) From Paris, either go to the Gare St. Lazare station and buy a ticket to Villennes from the 'ile de france' ticket booth (we will pick you up if you call us when you get here) or drive along the A13, direction Rouen, taking the Villennes/Poissy cut off ('sortie 7'). Keep straight on and follow the exit as it curves back on itself, continuing to follow the road straight on as it passes the 'art de vivre' shopping center on your right. You will see a Habitat store on your right next to a traffic light; turn right, going through the next traffic signal. Almost immediately you will turn right down the next road, a small country lane. Follow this lane to its end (1 minute), turn right and immediately turn left onto rue de Medan. We are the 2nd house on the right. Pull into the driveway.
