Description of Surrounding Area

The most beautiful and biggest island in the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is one
of the most famous seaside and touristic spa centres of Italy and the world,
it is also famous for its unequalled natural beauty, for its mild clime,
termal waters, modern tourist facilities and hotels and lastly for its
"wine". On the island the viticulture has millenarian origines The
cultivation
technique, is like the greek traditional one, in fact is different from that
one used in the middle of Italy and in the rest of the Campania province.
For long periods the economy of the island was based on the viticulture that
influenced the life and the uses of the inhabitants. The cultivations on the
isle are extended from the coasts to the steep mountain slopes where the

Six are the communes of the island: Ischia, Casamicciola Terme,
Lacco Ameno,
Forio, Serrara Fontana and Barano, with about 50.000 inhabitants.
Ischia is the most important. Into the harbour area is the trading part of
the town and another important area is that one around the "Castello
Aragonese" which is called "Ischia Ponte", a picturesque ancient fisher's
village.Forio is the second major town of Ischia according to population
number and
importance. It stretches between two promontories, Punta Caruso (at Zaro)
and Punta Imperatore, between the considered most beautiful beaches on the
island and into the metallic green of the vineyards which cover the slopes
of Mount Epomeo, descending into a scene of incomparable beauty. Forio
covers 13 square kilometres and has a population of 12,638 inhabitants; it
ranges from 0 km above sea level to 700 in the Falanga areas. It is divided
into the hamlets of Forio and Panza with other peripheral villages
(Monterone, Cuotto, and Citara).
It is the only town which has preserved its entire historical centre with
its tiny streets, churches, sighting towers and monuments - all of which are
unaltered from their original construction. The main monuments are: the
church of Soccorso (pictured on one of the Italian stamps) dedicated to
Santa Maria della Neve, the Torrione (big tower), the church of San
Francesco da Paola, the church of Arciconfraternita' of Santa Maria delle
Grazie known as Visitapoveri, the Basilica Pontificia S. Maria di Loreto,
the church of San Vito, the parish church of S Leonardo Abate, S Maria al
Monte. You should visit the exotic garden of villa Gancia, the garden of
Lady Walton; the troglodyte house dug into a mass of tufa and the spa
gardens Poseidon and the Bay of Sorgeto near Panza which, due to its hot
water wells, is the
favorite place in any season for a midnight dip.
However, the natural beauty of Ischia does not finish there. Everything from
the sea to the mountain - including its harbours, the small bays, its
convenient beaches and ports, the high rockface along its coast, the
vegetation, the variety of the plant life, the pine trees and the myriads of
multi-coloured flowers - make Ischia one of the most beautiful islands of

With breath-taking views of the ocean, our hostel is a perfect getaway with
lovely rooms to sleep in.

We don't look like a typical hostel. We look more like a pretty beach
house. Located on a quiet and relaxing part of the beach we have
accommodation available for 2,3,4,5,6, people in either shared or private
rooms.

Our comfortable holiday apartments for 2-5 people, are located in 'an historical 18th century house-villas ' in the centre of Forio on the beach, the sun-drenched south-west coast of the island of Ischia. The staff of Ringhostel speak good english and german. Situated in a quiet street approx. 30 m from the sea with an excellent infrastructure:

Description of Rooms/Suites

Using the freshest ingredients from the morning's markets, each day Tina Colella cooks up the best in Ischian and southern Italian cuisine. Any given night you may be blessed enough to discover your plate filled with spaghetti doused in homemade tomato sauce or spinach-stuffed ravioli in sage butter, baked zucchini florets or grilled eggplant slices, seared swordfish steaks or fresh mussels drenched in wine?the possibilities are endless. Add to that all the wine you can guzzle and a spot of homemade tiramisu or melon liqueur and you'll have experienced what most guests profess to be the best meal of their vacation. The restaurant at Poggio del Sole is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast begins at 8:30AM , lunch at 12:30PM , dinner at 7:30PM ; all meals are served until the last customer is pleasantly stuffed and ready to retire. As this is a true family restaurant, casual dress is appropriate, kids are welcome, and reservations are not necessary. Half board at Poggio del Sole includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner. And of course, as this is your vacation, happy hour is every hour. Directions

Forio is situated on the west coast of Ischia, approximately 50 minutes by hydrofoil from the port of Naples.From the port of Ischia go right from ferry exit about 100 meters. Take a bus # 1 or CS to Forio. Stops to Campo Sportivo (Football Field) bus stop. At Campo Sportivo bus stop you will cross the main street and go uphill.A Supermarket (Supermercato) will be on your left as you go uphill. Go uphill half km. Stay to the right as you go. At the first and only stop sign, there will be a 3 way intersection and the road you are on will end. At this intersection go left. If you have a map, this road is " Strada Borbonica ". Go half km and the Hotel Poggio del Sole will be on the right.In hotel Poggio Del Sole we will make your check-in and then we thake you in our dependence Ringhostel, if you have any problem to reach us just phone we are very happy to help you. You can reach us with bus number 14 from casamicciola and from forio, from Forio also with "linea A" but is not difficult also to walk.
The nearest international airport is in Naples which is 40 kilometres away. The nearest beach is 1 kilometre away and the nearest ferry port, Port of Forio is 1 kilometre away.

Naples railway station is 30 kilometres away and the city of Naples itself is 20 kilometres away.
