The Baikalhostel, result of a German-Russian partnership, is the first backpacker hostel in Irkutsk and whole Siberia. The hostel opened in March 2003 in a cosy and clean apartment.
Our friendly staff speaks English and German and will always be on hand to provide you with any information required or to help organize transport to Lake Baikal, Olckhon and Sajan Mountains.
The rooms are clean and comfortable with 2, 4 or 6 beds, with shared bathroom and toilet facilities. There is a well equipped kitchen for self-caterers, free linen and blankets and free luggage storage. We have Internet access, sell post cards and maps. Supermarket around the corner (50 m). We can register your visa. We will help you to organize your staying in Irkutsk region, supply with all necessary information about town. We also offer some one or more day adventure tours to Lake Baikal (hiking, climbing) and an excursion to the historical center of Irkutsk city and so on.
Directions
The hostel is situated in Irkutsk, between the train station and the dam on the River Angara. Get off at the bus and Marshrutka station Mikrochirugia Glasa, on the main street Lermontova. From there it's a 1-minute walk to the Hostel.The apartment is located in a new red-brick six floor building near the stop. Look for the advertisement of the shop called 'Tpouka' (Troika). The Hostel is just behind the corner.
The following buses (and the so called equivalent marshrutkas= minibuses) run Lermontova str.:
-from the center: 1, 3, 10, 24, 84,80,90,95,85,88 -from the train station: 72 -from the airport: 45,80
If you go by minibuses - 45, 94, 99 (from the airport), or 7, 10, 24, 84 (from the center), you need to get off on the stop and then cross the road. If you go by minibus 72 (from the train), or 1, 3, 90A (from the center), you will need to walk about 20 meters without crossing the road. Keep the direction of the cars, and than turn to the right.
