Migata -- Apr 16, 2010 07:54 pm A fantastic place in great location, my favourite hot spot of Krakow after the Royal Castle :) located right between Kazimierz and the Main Square, with homely and social atmosphere, super-friendly multi-culti staff who always know what is happening ... more
What sets us apart from the other great hostels on this page? The Travellers Inn is a very informal place -- not perfect, but friendly, humane and generous for human beings. If you're looking for a'typical' Crazy Fun Party Time in Krakow, we can help you find that (and also to Auschwitz or the Salt Mine, as in all other Krakow hostels). But unlike the other places we can also help you discoverthe strange surprising hidden charms of this city. Like subterranean museums, local cat celebrities, bronze dragons, tunnels where you can get a haircut, or hardened old ladies selling sheep cheese illegally. We are eager to direct you beyond the obvious basics. Just ask us.
So what can we offer you?
-our famous Krakow Kit, a free guide available on good old-fashionedpaper and also as a PDF. It will open your eyes to places both great and terrible, handpicked by our staff. You can find classy pubs, trashy pubs, Milk Bars (living artifacts from Poland's communist past), cafes, bookshops and bakeries.
-free walking tours to Podgórze and Nowa Huta arranged when you want (for no fewer than 3 people at a time, please) -free bikes to borrow
-free dinners most Thursday nights
-and the usual free stuff such as our very modest but 24-hour free breakfast, free internet and Wi-Fi, free linens and use of washer and dryer.
Our location: Between the two most vibrant and accessible parts of the city -- the Main Market Square and Kazimierz (the former Jewish quarter of the city.) The Main Square is a 7 minute walk away, Kazimierz just across the street.
Directions
A) From the Main Train and Bus Station in Krakow Tram You'll have to go under the street to get to the tram stop -- take a look at the map to see where. Before boarding the tram (number 13) you'll need to buy a ticket in the kiosk if it's open (say "bilet normalny") or buy one from the machine on the tram (with coins only, no notes). Once on the tram you'll want to get off at the stop called "Starowiślna". Cross the street to your right and follow Dietla Street. The fi rst turn on the right is Józefa Sarego. The hostel is here at No. 24. Walk If you're not weighed down by a gigantic backpack, it will be simpler to walk here (it's a maximum of 15 min., and waiting for the tram would take you a minimum of 10 minutes anyway). It is a nice stroll and will give you a good fi rst look at the city. Take the pedestrian passage under the street and walk through Planty (the little strip of park) that runs next to Westerplatte Street. This street later turns into Św. Gertrudy. Turn left from Gertrudy when you see the Deutche Bank onto Józefa Sarego. You will fi nd us at No.24 on Sarego Street. B) From the Krakow Balice Train Take the train from the Airport and get off at the Main Railway Station. Follow the instructions given on the left of this page. The train leaves every 30 min and costs 8 PLN. The whole journey takes 15 minutes. You'll get on the train about 200m from main airport terminal, and there's a free bus every few minutes if you don't want to walk. You can buy your ticket on the train. Bus Take bus No. 292 and get off next to the lower platform of the Main Bus Station (Dworzec Główny Wschód). Follow the instructions given above. The journey takes 45 min., and you'll need to buy a one-way ticket (bilet normalny). Taxi Taking a taxi to the hostel from the airport costs about 75 PLN.
