Description   The Purple House International Backpackers' Hostel

The Purple House International Backpackers' Hostel is the ONLY AUTHENTIC travellers hostel located in the third largest city in Panama, David City.

The Purple House is very cosy and friendly, clean and comfortable, a lot like coming home to your own house. We are owned by travellers who know what travellers look for! Our theme is purple, and most guests are surprised to see just how many things we have managed to find in the color PURPLE!

David City is a convenient stopping point on your way to Costa Rica, or Bocas del Toro. You can easily make day trips to Boquete and Cerro Punta. It also tends to be less rainy in David City, than in other parts of the country, so with more dependability you can plan your city jaunts, shopping and sun intake in our backyard!!

Sometimes taxi drivers or other hotel salespeople will tell you we are closed or full, when in fact, we have plenty of space available. If you have a problem reserving please email or call us directly to double check that we have space available, especially for same day or next day availability. **We have limited availability in the month of October, so contact us directly in order to reserve.

We offer shared (dorms with 4 or 6 beds) and private rooms with and without private bath and air-conditioning, Free internet access including free wireless access, free coffee and tea all day, free use of our fully equipped kitchen, free use of our living room with cable TV, stereo, DVD, free book exchange for our guests, reference guide books, outside area for smokers, hammocks, cheap laundry service, cheap international phone-calls, international travelers atmosphere. Discounts on local airlines (Aeroperlas and AirPanama) plus other services like buses and tours

When you reserve through this service, your bed is guaranteed only until 6:00pm on your arrival date. After that time, we will release your reservation and you will lose your deposit with this service. If you want to guarantee your reservation for late arrival, you should contact us directly so we can give your further instructions.

Special Note: The Purple House International Backpackers Hostel disagrees with the customer review system that this website offers. We have repeatedly tried to contact the Hostelworld department that handles the review process to express our concerns, and to date, no one has responded to us regarding our specific complaint. We gave up trying.

Therefore, we are making a special note here to say that we believe the current review system is unfair and inaccurate. It allows any guest for any reason to sabotage a hostel with low rankings and negative comments. For the review system to work correctly and fairly, we believe that hostel owners, managers and staff, should also be given the opportunity to rank and evaluate our patrons as well. Until then, it is our opinion that the review system is unfairly biased and should not be used to make decisions in lodging options.

This specific complaint in no way reflects our satisfaction with Hostelworlds services on the whole. We also continue to invite them to respond to all of our emails regarding this issue. We also invite other hostel owners to contact us with your opinions on this subject.

How to get to THE PURPLE HOUSE...

The Purple House neighborhood of San Mateo, David was selected especially with the international traveller in mind, because we have many 24 hour stores, restaurants, and services and the area is considered to be extremely safe.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are arriving to David City from the Paso Canoas border of Costa Rica or Cerro Punta or Volcan, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE BUS ALL THE WAY TO THE BUS TERMINAL! You can ask your bus driver to let you off about 3 blocks from The Purple House (La Casa Morada), and that way, you save taxi money! This is what to do: Ask the bus driver to let you off in front of the bus stop 'Universidad Tecnologica'. You will be in front of a gas station. Pivot your body around and look for the Budget Rental Car Office, and walk toward it and continue on this same street (Avenida Sexta) for 3 blocks toward the Chamber of Commerce. It is a five minute walk.
