Surrounding Area

The Black Duck is located on the Schoodic Peninsula, home to the only mainland section of Acadia National Park and also hosts a portion of the Petite Manan National Wildlife Refuge. The Peninsula has nearly 5 lighthouses located within its bounds or off shore. Schoodic consists of several small fishing villages like Corea - the scenery is some of the best in Maine with hiking trails nearby, as well as fabulous kayaking waters and scenery for painting and photography. Only 45 minutes from Mt. Desert Island, the main part of Acadia National Park. Other wildlife refuges are not far away. Campobello Island, FDR's old summer estate is only about 1.5 hrs, north/east in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick, across an "international" bridge. That area hosts 2 incredible lighthouses and amazing coastal scenery and makes a terrific day trip.

Accommodations

The Black Duck is sited on over 12 acres of rock outcrop, heath, blueberry fields, harbor frontage and hidden bays. We have several nature trails throughout the property and direct access to Corea Harbor. You might see one of our foxes, deer, even perhaps a moose.Corea has been described as a "healing" place .The b&b itself is a restored seaman's home, added on to over the years in a typically New England fashion. It is furnished with antiques and contemporary art, oriental rugs, and has an eclectic but warm feel to it. We have a library area, a TV area, 2 large sitting rooms, and since we only have 4 guest rooms in the house, there are places to hide and read, write or just relax should the weather be foggy or in the evenings. Rooms/Suites

Suite A: a bedroom with white painted floors, cottage furniture and a contemporary steel queen size sleigh bed. The bedroom and sitting room have harbor views. Large bath en suite.Suite B/C: consists of 2 bedrooms, one with a Mission style queen bed, antique oriental rugs and antique furniture; the other has 2 antique twin brass beds, pine furnishings and bright wall paper. The 2 bedrooms share one bath en suite.Room D: is a first floor room with its own small deck, private outdoor entrance, eclectically furnished with a queen bed and a twin. the room also has a sitting area and a writing desk.Art from the owner's travels and from collections and local artists can be found throughout the house.Harbor Studio is a free standing water front cottage, with full kitchen facilities, a living room and bedroom with a double bed. The cottage sits only about 80 feet back from the harbor's edge and is a definite favorite.(3 night min)Harbor Cottage, is a bit larger than the Studio with a second story living room and a first floor bedroom; also full kitchen facilities. While this sits a little further back from the water's edge, it offers a true Maine experience of sharing in the activity of the harbor. The Cottage rents only by the week

Directions

from US Rte 1. Turn onto Rte 195 and follow all the way to Corea. When one enters the VIllage and passes the white, steepled church, take the first left onto Crowley Island Rd. Go 1/10 mile and turn left at #36 Crowley Island Rd. into the Black Duck driveway.
