Fat Salmon Backpacker's Hostel is a progressive, fun and funky space that provides inexpensive accommodation for budget international travellers.

The Fat Salmon offers its guests plenty of room in which to relax and kick on back, being equipped with a large and cozy lounge, a fully-equipped sit-in kitchen (fridge & freezer, stove, oven, microwave oven), a fun reception area, four pristine bathrooms, and six dormitories of varying sizes (from 4 to 8 beds per room).
The Fat Salmon offers its guests inclusive linens and towels, free coffee & hot choccie & tea, free movies (with a huge selection of both national and international favourites), a free library (take a book, leave a book), free fresh herbs from El Gordo's garden when in season, an on-site info centre, kayak & canoe & bike hire, free storage for little stuff, minimally-charged storage ofr big stuff, an outside deck & BBQ, free shuttle service to/from bus stations when booked in advance, phone & fax accessibility, guided tours of the town and surrounding areas, laundry facilites, great music and the best staff this side of the Malahat. The Fat Salmon is located only a 2-minute walk away from the dock of the MV Lady Rose and Sir Francis Barkley, a brief walk from both the Grey Line and Tofino bus stops and is the new pick-up/drop-off location in Port Alberni for the West Coast Trail Express Bus.

Directions

We are located in the middle of Vancouver Island, British Columbia - right on the Alberni Inlet, made famous by the Tsunami of 1964. Take Highway 4 from Victoria or Nanaimo, and follow it north west all the way into Port Alberni, turning left onto the Alberni Highway (at the Alberni Valley information centre/Chamber of Commerce). This road turns into Redford Road. Follow it to the end, and turn left onto Gertrude Street. Gertruse Street turns into 3rd Avenue. We are on 3rd Avenue, number 3250, two blocks before the corner of Argyle Street, in the heart of "South Port", Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Look for the bright yellow house with the brilliant purple sign above the door!
