Activity/Tour

No tour operator sees whales more often than San Juan Safaris - 90% or better. Our whale watching boat Sea Lion is 55 foot, new and fast.

With only 40 or fewer guests aboard, there is plenty of room at the rails or in the windowed cabin for everyone to view whales and wildlife.

Knowledgeable marine naturalists will inform and amuse you. Our crew loves their work and it shows. Guests tell us that the staff is attentive, warm and friendly.

San Juan Safaris is proud of its reputation for strictly adhering to the 'Whale Watching Guidelines' and for respectful wildlife viewing ethics. The owner has been in the wildlife viewing business for over forty years!

Typical Day

We board the tour twenty minutes prior to departure. There is a 10 minute safety talk that all guests must listen to. We are usually back at the dock 3 hours from departure time. If the whales are further away, the tour could go over 10 - 30 minutes.

We concentrate on the entire eco system, not just the whales. You will learn some geography of the area as well as whale information, salmon, other marine mammals, sea birds and more.

Age range, type of group

New born and kids of ALL ages are welcome aboard our tours. You will love whale watching and viewing all types of marine mammals, birds and scenery. This is a great experience for families to interact with each other and independent travelers to explore.

Sleeping and meals

There are 50 lodging facilities on San Juan Island. Inns, Bed and Breakfasts, hotels and motels plus camping. We have numerous gourmet-style restaurants, pizza places, burger restaurants and latte booths scattered all over Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor alike.

Policies & Restrictions

No age restrictions. We do not allow smoking or alcohol on the boat. We are not handicap accessible, however if a person can take two steps up onto the boat, we can pre-board them. Our bathroom is down four stairs. There is a railing on that stair case.

Rates

Prices are $79 adult and $52 child 2 - 12. Under 2 are Free. Prices may change due to fuel surcharge. Tax and Tip and not included.

We will give a 10% discount for groups of ten people or more.We also now offer a 10% reduction for Military and theirentire families (with ID).
