The Old Countryhouse

Welcome to the Old Countryhouse, one of Christchurch's favourite backpacker accommodation hostels for 13 years.

We invite you to take a walk along our garden path to one of our charming colonial villas with polished wooden floors and hand-made native timber furniture. All our villas have been fully restored and have everything to make your stay with us a memorable one. They are set among landscaped gardens, and have electronic secure access.

The CBD is still closed but the best parts of Christchurch are open and definitely worth a visit. Make sure you see reception for information and bookings on all the best attractions and activities in and around Christchurch.

The Accommodation
Full central heating to keep warm during those cold winter months, Doubles & Twins (with and without private bathrooms) & spacious Dorms - all with firm beds for a good nights sleep. Triple rooms have one double and one single bed. All private rooms have fully made up beds. All bedding is included free of charge in both private rooms and dorms.

The Facilities:
Well equipped kitchens with everything you need to cook up a storm. TV lounge and a separate reading lounge to chill out & other home comforts such as laundry, guest telephone & Internet, off street parking.

WiFi internet is available in all bedrooms and public areas, and you can pick up your FREE $5 WiFi voucher from reception daily. Stay in touch with your friends and family on us!

The Garden:
Our spacious garden is landscaped with lots of native plants, fern trees and palm trees and is a wonderful space to relax. Plenty of outdoor seating invites you to sit back and relax with a good book, plan your next adventure, or enjoy a conversation with friends and a glass of wine.

The Location:
The Old Countryhouse is located on the eastern side of central Christchurch. We have the best of both worlds: close enough to the city to walk easily within 15 minutes, yet right next to local shops and restaurants. There is a supermarket, fruit & vegie shop, post office, Subway restaurant, pizza restaurant, conveniently located just across the road.

Buses to local beaches, Riccarton shopping district and city leave directly from our doorstep. Easily accessible from the airport.

The Staff:
We are friendly people and keen travellers ourselves. We are looking forward to meeting you and can help with your travel questions and bookings - we have heaps of local knowledge too.

EXTENDED CANCELLATION POLICY for Christmas & New Year Bookings:
Any cancellations must be received by email ONE WEEK PRIOR TO your arrival. Cancellations within one week and failure to arrive will be charged at 100% of your booking. However we will endeavour to re-let your room and if successful there will be no charge.

CHRISTMAS BOOKINGS:
We have a minimum stay period over Christmas and your booking MUST include the three nights of 24, 25 and 26 December otherwise your booking will not be accepted.

NEW YEAR:
We have a minimum stay period over New Year and your booking MUST include the three nights of 30 and 31 December and 1 January otherwise your booking will not be accepted.

Directions

We are situated on 373 Gloucester Street , 1.5km east from the Cathedral Square. Kiwi House is just after Fitzgerald Ave.(a 6 car lane avenue) on the left hand side of the road when coming from the city centre.

Our latest check- in time is 7pm. Please make sure your flight arrival time at Christchurch airport.

*from airport : Taking shuttle bus is the best way to get to Kiwi House.
They are always just outside of international arrival terminal. (around half price of taxis) They will drop you off right in front of Kiwi House.

*from rail way station : Shuttle buses are there too. Just $5 to Kiwi House.

*We are around 15 minutes walk from the city centre. Despite the relatively close proximity to Cathedral Square (1.5kms from both locations) Kiwi House is in a residential area. This means that the cheaper transport options from the airport do not come directly to the door and require a bit of a walk. Because we know it is never fun to lug your luggage after a long flight, we suggest you either come directly via a shuttle from the airport, taxi from the inner city, or call us once you have arrived at Cathedral Square and we will endeavour to come and pick you up. (we can come and pick you up between the hours 11am-7pm, depending on how busy we are.
