Description of Surrounding Area

AVOCA River Cabins is comfortably situated in the Sundays River Valley in the Eastern Cape - South Africa. The Sundays River is a boundary on the farm . Avoca is an operational Citrus Farm with accommodation. The setting is tranquil and beautiful. We are within a short distance from the villages of Addo & Kirkwood. The Addo Elephant Park is a short drive from our farm.

Description of Accommodations

Our accommodation is in Chalets, Ethnic Mud Huts, Wood Huts and the Tree House. We also have an amazing two room facility called The Castle.

Description of Rooms/Suites

The Tree House has two bedrooms and can sleep upto 6 people. Each bedroom has two beds and a fold ouch couch. There is a kitchen on the facility. Bedding is provided.

The chalets are fully equipped. Each has a private toilet and shower area. The chalets can sleep from 2 to six people. Our chalets each have a mezzanine level in the rafters of the accommodation. This is accessible by ladder.

The Ethnic Mud Huts include sleeping place only. The ablution facility is outside and shared with the neighbour. The kitchen is under a Lapa and is communal. The huts can sleep 2 or 3 people.

The Castle is a two bedroom self-contained flat. It is fully equipped. It can sleep 4 people.

Amenities

We do not run a restaurant. There are restaurants in the area.

Rates & Availability

The cost of staying with us differs from self—catering to bed & breakfast. The Ethnic Mud Huts & Bush Camp (Wooden Huts) rates are R230 per hut per night. Bed & Breakfast rates are R275 per person per night.
The Tree House goes at R800 per night – self catering. (Yes that would be the large house viewed on the web page…) Chalets go for from R500 – R700 per night self-catering. If you would like breakfast the charge would be R60, while dinner/supper would be charged at R80. Both breakfast and Supper need to be arranged in advance.

Directions

From Port Elizabeth:
From the airport your traveling time would be about one hour’s drive. Get onto the N2 traveling towards Grahamstown. Take the R 335 for approximately 40km through the village of Addo. Take a left turn onto the R336 following the signs for Kirkwood. Travel 12.5km from the R336 turn-off. Find the sign for AVOCA on your left and the Summerville Pack house on your right. Make a right turn immediately before the pack house. Follow the gravel road a short distance. Please report to the Reception.

East London to Avoca:
Take the R72 along the coast to Port Alfred and Alexandria (Or take the N2). Take the Turn onto the N10 for Paterson. Take the R342 which becomes the R335 passed the Addo Elephant Park. Take a right turn onto the R336 following the signs for Kirkwood. Travel 12.5km from the R336 turn-off. Find the sign for AVOCA on your left and the Summerville Pack house on your right. Make a right turn immediately before the pack house. Follow the gravel road a short distance.

Grahamstown to Avoca:
Via the Elephant Park, - Travel on the N2 towards Colchester. Go through the park on the tar road. Take a left onto the R335. Take a right turn onto the R336 following the signs for Kirkwood. Travel 12.5km from the R336 turn-off. Find the sign for AVOCA on your left and the Summerville Pack house on your right. Make a right turn immediately before the pack house. Follow the gravel road a short distance.
