Jungle Adventures in the Maya World - Duende Tours
Description of Activity/Tour
Duende Tours include different activities. Its main jungle activities are off-road bicycling, canoeing and hiking. But there is also caving, snorkeling, bird watching, and optional activities like scuba diving or kite boarding. The tours include several day jungle adventures, during which we camp out with good equipment provided by us. Some of these adventures require a very good physical condition, while others are less demanding.
Typical Day
A typical day on one of our tours would start by waking up early to the amazing sounds of tropical birds and howler monkeys. After a refreshing swim in the lake and a good breakfast it is time to break up camp and get ready for a wild off-road bike adventure ride through lush jungle. Which sometimes means having to carry your bicycle over fallen trees or through big mud pools. We rest for lunch and cycle further while occasionally stopping to observe a snake, wild turkeys, spider monkeys or other exotic wildlife. When we arrive at our destination we are amazed by its beauty. In the middle of the jungle there suddenly rise high Mayan complexes and before preparing for the night we experience an amazing feeling: the realization that only very few people have been so lucky to visit this place.
Age range, type of group
Most people joining Duende Tours are between the age of 25 and 40. Although, the only age limit we have is a minimum age limit: 14 years for an acompanied child. There is a lot of single travelers while our small groups make these adventures a great way of meeting new travel companions.
Sleeping and meals
The accommodations we stay at are eco-friendly and where possible run by local families. On our tours we avoid towns and cities and stay in beautiful, natural places at the ocean, a lake or a river. There is also a lot of camping involved in the tours as we get to places far away from any form of civilization. Duende Tours provide all the camping and cooking equipment for your comfort and the group will cook and eat together when camping. When staying in hotels or lodges, meals are taken in local restaurants. Your guides will advise you on the best places to discover what the local cuisine has to offer and often, the group goes out and enjoy their meals together. Nevertheless, you can always decide where you would like to take your meals. The combination between camping and hotels, group and individual meals, make these adventures so exiting, relaxing and fun.
Other Information
Duende Tours is a small team of enthusiastic people from different nationalities that started exploring the jungles of the Mundo Maya over 7 years ago. Using bicycles and canoes we have been able to come ever deeper and deeper into the jungle. This way we are able to get to beautiful, sometimes very remote ancient Mayan sites that are often built close to rivers, lakes or other sources of water. Our idea is to make these remote adventures accessible for active people that like the taste of nature, fun and new experiences and therefore we invite you to come and share this magical world with us. We have come to notice that the jungle makes you feel like a different person. After a few nights of pure oxygen and mystical encounters with the jungle’s intense sights, smells and noises you simply relax and start seeing life in a most positive way. What we want to share with you is a more traditional, everlasting lifestyle, in which nature is our teacher and we learn new things daily. All our tours start and end in the Mexican Riviera Maya with easy international access to the airport in Cancun. In addition to the tours we offer, Duende Tours recommends you to spend some days in the Riviera Maya, a place right at the most beautiful beaches of the world with lots of things to see and do before we set off into the jungle.
