Mangaweka Adventure Company, "MAC", has an extensive range of products including multi day river journeys and day river trips. All of the trips are run on the beautiful Rangitikei River as seen in Lord of the Rings movie. The family trips are run on Grade 2 water and they offer the opportunity to run kayaks as well as rafts on our trips. No Experience is necessary and best of all, its fun and easy!

The family camping trips are among the best in New Zealand and range from 2 days to four days. Children from as young as 4 years old to as old as "the days" are welcome. All the river gear, trained experienced guides - with heaps of character- and camping gear is supplied. You bring your sleeping bag and funny t-shirts for interesting conversation.The two day Grade 5 trip is quite exclusive and is suitable for reasonably fit participants. A minimum age of 13 years is required.

Typical Day

The quick overnight campout is great for kids! Meet at The Mangaweka International Airport, pack your stuff and get away for 24 hours into the deep in the heart of the Utiku Sandstone Gorge.Minimum of 4 people. Bookings essential.

The jewel of the Rangitikei is through the Mokai Gorge. The campsites are set deep in the heart of the gorges with quiet isolation only the river can provide. Native Flora and Fuana abound and heaps of Grade 2 rapids ensure fun river running for everyone. Minimum of 4 people. Bookings essential.

Day trips taking about 2 hrs are great! "MAC" are located only 5 minutes from the river and their meeting base is on St Hwy 1. Its easy to find, easy to join a trip, or even make your own private trip (at no extra cost). You get completely refreshed and still have time to get to your next destination!

Day Trips exploring the river all day are a pleasure! Lunch & transport are included. Most areas enjoyed are only accessiable by raft or kayak. Various accommodation options are available so no need to rush off.
