Several Alaska adventure tours to Choose From:

Classic Alaskan Tour (7 days)

A Classic Alaskan itinerary featuring Alaska’s most visited destinations: the Kenai Peninsula and Denali National Park. This tour is an excellent introduction to Alaska and features access to some of Alaska's most exciting day trip adventures: Wildlife glacier cruises, river rafting, sea kayaking, world class fishing, flight seeing and more.

Wildland Glacier Tour (7 days)

This is a great trip for those looking for an active, off the beaten path adventure. One of our guides’ favorite trips! We’ll camp near the base of the Matanuska Glacier and have the opportunity to walk on its immense snout. Next we’ll travel deep within Wrangell St. Elias National Park to experience the area’s fascinating human and geological history. For the next 2 nights we’ll stay at either a local historic hotel or in local cabins amidst a backdrop of immense glaciers and ice falls and one of Alaska’s most unique locations. Next we’re off to explore the temperate rainforest and glaciers in Prince William Sound and Valdez. A half day scenic ferry trip across Prince William Sound will bring us back to the Kenai Peninsula and Hope, the best preserved gold rush town in South Central Alaska. Adventurous day trip adventures are available throughout: hiking, glacier trekking and ice climbing, river rafting, and sea kayaking (to the face of a glacier!).

Combine our Classic Alaskan Tour and Wildland Glacier Tour for a 14 day adventure tour you will never forget.

Classic Family Tour (7 days)

Same as our Classic Alaskan Tour but catered to families.

Alaska Arctic Adventure Tour (7 days)

This 7-day trip is by far our most rugged and inspiring adventure leading participants into the remote far north where few tourists travel. Travel north of Fairbanks to explore the northern boreal forest and for a soak in the rejuvenating Chena Hot Springs, a hot spring resort internationally recognized for its efforts to promote energy sustainability. Next we are off across the mighty Yukon River, north of the Arctic Circle and through the Brooks Range. Finally, we’ll cross the treeless plains of the North Slope and travel through some of the most pristine landscape in the world. There will be fantastic opportunities for hiking throughout including within the famed (and controversial) Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Alaska Wildlife Tour (10 days)

An Alaska wilderness vacation and wildlife viewing tour: bears, moose, whales, sheep, caribou and more! This trip includes canoeing in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Tangle lakes and near Denali National Park, scenic ferry tour across Prince William Sound, and wildlife viewing tour in Denali National Park. Excellent wildlife viewing is possible throughout. Great hiking opportunities can be found at each location, as well as additional outstanding day trip adventures. The Wildlife Tour features world class ocean and river fishing, river rafting, canoeing, sea kayaking, horseback riding, glacier/wildlife cruise, flight seeing, dog sledding, mountain biking, river kayaking and more!

Many of our adventure tours can be combined to form longer trips.

Typical Day

Our small group camping tours camp in and near Alaska’s national parks and protected areas. Our days are filled with exploration and adventure as we enjoy the greatest Multi-sport adventure tours available in Alaska. Our evenings continue with the luxuries of camp life; marshmallows by the campfire, evening walks through the woods, and those beautiful Alaskan sunsets shared with new friends.

Age range, type of group

Our trips attract a wide variety of travelers from around the world, all with the interest in experiencing the true Alaska, away from the crowds of conventional bus tours.

Sleeping and meals

Our tours are primarily camping-based, at established campgrounds though do include an occasional night stay at a hotel, lodge or cabins.

Campgrounds

We utilize established camping areas near and within parks and protected areas as our base camps. We select campgrounds based upon their scenic beauty and secluded nature.

Meals

Your guide, with a little teamwork from the group, will treat you to a variety of expertly prepared meals. We have worked with excellent outdoor cooks to create menus that are wholesome, hearty, and consistently good. You won’t go hungry.

Breakfasts are varied and generally consist of eggs, pancakes, French toast, cereals, fruit and the like. Special additions like fresh blueberries, real maple syrup, and good locally roasted coffee are the norm. Our hearty breakfasts will prepare you for the wilderness each day.

Lunches are generally deli style with a wide selection of meats and cheeses, including locally smoked salmon and halibut (the local specialty). Plenty of fruits and vegetables are always available as are crackers, trail mix, dried fruit, nuts etc. Hot soups with bread and salad are featured on some days.

For dinner your chef/guide will treat you to famous fresh Alaskan seafood, barbecue, and pasta dishes, just to name a few. A typical dinner might include grilled fish/ meat with fresh steamed vegetables and wild rice. Or with a flair, Mexican fajitas with all the extras like guacamole, sour cream and fresh salsa. Our meal planners have developed a variety of well balanced meals that generally include appetizers, a main course, and dessert.

Alternative meal suggestions are encouraged and special dietary needs can almost always be accommodated.

Rates

Our trips are among the most affordable available in Alaska. Because we are local and camp rather than staying at expensive hotels and lodges, we are able to offer outstanding valued tours that are not only affordable, but are more experiential as well.

Other Information

Our small group camping tours are inherently less impacting to the environment and local cultures than other tour offerings. By traveling in small groups and staying at established campgrounds, we consume less water, electricity and fuel than if we were staying at lodges or participating on cruise-based trips. We are better able to monitor our environmental impact and to contribute to the local economy in a more direct and meaningful way.

Some of the ways in which our impacts are mitigated:

Recycling- we recycle both in the field and at our base camp.

Minimizing the use of excessive packaging- efforts are made to purchase products that minimize packaging and utilize recycled content, both for our trips and in the daily operations of the business.

Following Leave No Trace minimum impact camping guidelines- Alaska Outdoors is a member of Leave No Trace and all guides are certified in Leave No Trace principles. Learn more about the principles of Leave No Trace.

Using locally produced products whenever available- including locally grown organic produce, thus supporting farmers in the region and reducing the amount of produce that we import from outside of the state.

Using and encouraging the use of locally owned and operated businesses- We have excellent relationships with locally owned businesses and partner with them for services and optional activities and encourage their use before and after our tours. We are a member of Buy Alaska, an organization that matches local buyers with sellers. This network of more than 6,000 members facilitates our purchase of locally-produced products and services for use on our tours.

Employing local workers whenever possible- Not all of our employees are “local” Alaskans. However, we do make a concerted effort to hire locals and preference is given to resident Alaskans.

We are a member of the Alaska Wilderness Recreation and Tourism Association- The Alaska Wilderness Recreation & Tourism Association (AWRTA) is a members-driven trade association formed to be a collective voice for wilderness-dependent businesses. They advocate for the sustainability of Alaska's natural and cultural resources, responsible tourism and tourism planning for communities. AWRTA members abide by the voluntary Ecotourism Guidelines adopted by the membership in 1995.

These are a few of the efforts that we have undertaken to minimize the impacts of our business operations and to contribute to the long-term viability of adventure tourism and ecotourism in Alaska and the overall health of Alaska and its economy.

There are a lot of things that we do to ensure that your trip to Alaska is as enjoyable and as low impact as possible: low group numbers (among the very lowest in the industry), smartly organized itineraries lead by experienced guides, top of the line equipment, and intimate knowledge of the areas we visit are just a few. We know how vitally important your vacation is to you and will go out of our way to ensure that your experience is enriching, seamless, and fun!

And we will do so in a manner that greatly reduces our negative impact on the environment and people that you are here to experience.

Discounts Offered

We offer travel agent commissions and often give discounts to groups. Discounted custom itineraries are available to groups.
