Description of Boat

“Antares” is a unique and wonderful well kept 80’ steel hybrid schooner designed by Sparkman and Stephens of America’s Cup fame. “Shark” is our new twin engine, smooth running 20 foot all aluminum runabout and is a hybrid of Australian and South African design. Shark is used for fishing, diving, and all excursions. We specialize in all types of diving/snorkeling, fishing, surfing, or just plain walks in the rain forests to see fascinating wild animals and beautiful plant life. Antares will sleep 8 guests on extended expeditions. We have good bathroom and showers, water-makers with 1,500 gallons fresh holding capacity. Range is global - no restrictions. We have maxed out navigation aids, all safety features including EPRIB and SONAR. Cruise speed under power is 8 knots, but will do 13 knots under sail which we prefer and encourage participation in running the vessel if you wish, but not mandatory.

Destinations

All islands on the Pacific side of Panama, Cocos and Cano Islands off the coast of Costa Rica, and Mapelo located in a territory of Colombia. Expeditions can also be customized to suit each party. We specialize in visits to the Panamanian Darien Jungle rainforest to visit with the wild Cuna Indians near the Colombian border. The Las Perlas (Pearl) Islands, Ladrones (Thieves) Island, Coiba Island, Secas (Dry) Islands, Contreras Islands, Cocos (Coconut) and Cano (White) Islands are also fantastic destinations.

Typical Day

We will start your day at whatever time you want! Typically we start the day with a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns. Shark, our 20 ft runabout, is made ready to take you all diving. I give the first lesson of the day - about 15 minutes of what you should expect on your dive and to accustom each person. We do our first dive at change of tide, typically shallow at approximately 40 ft. After the dive, we come back to Antares for a delicious lunch and rest under shade or amongst the coconut trees on the white sand beach talking about our experience with the big fish. In the afternoon we go for our second dive to 60 ft plus looking for big animals to photo. After our second dive we come back to Antares, shower clean on the deck, have coffee or another beverage of your choice. Dinner is big with usually a Yellow Fin Tuna barbequed, salads and special sauces. Typically the sun takes a long time to set with hues of pink orange, blue, green and purple. At dark we have the choice of movies, Xbox, kayaking or walking on the beach – always fun after dark. We also have all types of music on an incredible stereo with boomers if that’s what you like. Night dives are also fun and you will see many creatures that come out from their daytime hiding places. For those of you who are romantically stirred, I have lessons in astronomy where we all learn from one another. I am also a successful undersea treasure hunter plus I grew up exploring the wilds of Africa. If you care to ask, I have many good stories to tell as we relax after dinner.

Of course, we have similar plans for fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, hiking/exploration, etc. All are wonderful experiences you will not soon forget!

Age range, type of group

No age restrictions. We are color blind, there are no restrictions, ALL groups are welcome.

Sleeping and meals

Each person has a bed with clean sheets every day plus three delicious meals per day. Although you will have a bunk with a porthole window below deck, many people prefer to take there mattresses onto the deck where they can sleep under the stars and admire the vivid stars and planets and our own Milky Way galaxy.

Restrictions

No pets. No smoking below deck (smoking on deck is OK). We have no gender restrictions or gay couple restrictions - we are very open minded to your needs.

Other Information

Free chauffer service from/to airport.

If you are worried about getting seasick – don’t be! We provide (at a nominal charge) ear patch type medication that is extremely effective in preventing sea sickness.

The minimum for the Ship is the six person rate of $1,050 per day ($175 per person per day)

Discounts Offered

Our very low rate of $175 per person per day includes a boat captain, deckhand and fuel for trolling with the Shark runabout, fish poles, bait and fish cleaning – normally an extra cost of $150/day. We will even cook your fish up for dinner!
