Whangarei Heads, situated in Whangarei Harbour, has many beautiful bays and beaches, including McLeod Bay; Reotahi,Taurikura, Urquhart Bay, Ocean Beach and Smugglers Cove .Whangarei Heads is a great place to go kayaking, fishing, water skiing, diving, sailing, windsurfing, coastal walks or just relaxing on the beach. There are a number of boat ramps nearby for launching small runabouts or sailing vessels. There are many walking tracks in the area, including Mt Manaia, which towers over Whangarei Heads. The walk to the summit takes about one hour. It is an enjoyable walk through native bush/forest. Once you reach the summit there is a magnificent 360 degree view of the area.Other walks in the area are Busby Head: 3 km / 1 hours loop track. Smugglers Cove: 20 minPeach Cove: 2 hours returnTe Whara: 7.5 km / 5 hours (one way). Urquharts Bay to Ocean BeachOcean beach, a spectacular white sandy surf beach, is a great place for surfing, boggies boarding and body surfing. Plenty of white sand to walk on.

With its stunning location, excellent facilities, and spectacular sea views, Breakaway Retreat makes an ideal place for a self catering holiday for the family or a romantic retreat for two. No crossing the road to get to the beach.A great place to go kayaking, fishing, water skiing, diving, sailing, windsurfing, coastal walks or just relaxing on the beach soaking up the sun. There are a number of boat ramps nearby for launching small runabouts or sailing vessels. Once you have launched your boat you can then anchor your boat in front of Breakaway Retreat for easy access during your stay.Tea, coffee, sugar, soap, shampoo, washing powder provided.Linen, changed every third day.

This is a great place to come and relax by the beach. A safe place for your children to enjoy. No crossing the road to get to the beach.

Directions

When you get to Whangarei follow the signs towards Town Basin and then to Onerahi. Just after the Onerahi shops turn left, by Hammer Hardware, onto Whangarei Heads Road, follow this road past the Parua Bay Shopping Centre. After the Parua Bay Shopping Centre the road then takes a 90degree turn, continue to take the Whangarei Heads Road until you reach the McLeod Bay 50km large speed sign. We are the second entrance on the right after this sign. There is a silver dollar gum tree at the entrance with the no's 1856.The link below shows our location in the smaps (by Trademe) interactive online map.
